    I found these deal while surfing on eBay.

    It seems that the seller is a very reputable one as he is member since 2007 and have 507 positive(100%) feedback.

    I placed an order for my M17x r3 and it seems like he have a lot of stock so I might share it as well

    Nice find. I remember when the 2.4-3.4 GHz ES versions were going for $325 and that was fantastic already. Good way for those of us still on the SB generation to extend the lives of our machines. :thumbsup:

    Intel Extreme Utility not functioning

    I own an msi gt60 and recently bought an I7 2920xm (Q1CE) to replace my i73610 proc for ocing purposes.. I have an unlock bios which i
    can fiddle the frequency of the processor (Core Ratio limit 1-4) in the bios settings. One problem with my tweak is that when i stress
    test my nb, the Oc'ed speed decreases to 3.2-2.7 for quad core setup. What I really want is to stress test my nb with the desired speed
    that i wanted to see if its stable or not ......

    Now I want to test its unlock multipliers thru apps like XTU or Throttlestop. I manage to successfully installed and run the XTU. THe
    problem is, is that the manual settings is greyed out except for reference clock... Same goes with throttlestop. Under Power Limits, i
    cant adjust the tdp.... Here are the images of my bios and xtu...

    is that a type-o or do you not know you can't use different generation cpus together?

    2920xm does not work with a IB mother board

    2920xm = Sandy Bridge
    3610= Ivy Bridge

    SB does not equal IB

    Ivy bridge is backwards compatible with sandy bridge so you can use the 2 together but thats because they designed ivy bridge that way.

    Anyways Try XTU 2.1 and that might work.

    Their sockets are pin compatible but you may need a BIOS update. Seeing how locked-down most notebook BIOS are that may be hard.

    Here:
    "We can also now report that Panther Point is pin compatible with Cougar Point, and that Sandy Bridge processors will work in Ivy Bridge motherboards."

    And here:
    To confirm what has been said in news articles around the world, the Intel 7-series chipsets will be backwards compatible with the Sandy Bridge (Intel 2nd Generation Core Microarchitecture) processors from the point of sale. All motherboard vendors should have this functionality built into their BIOSes. The beauty lies not in backwards compatibility but in releasing chipsets to take advantage of the new features—this is something AMD has done well with in the past.

    I've looked on Ebay and all 2920XM and 2960XM are listed as compatible with mobile 65/67/75/76/77 chipset. However, 3920XM and 3940XM are listed as compatible with mobile 7 series chipsets only NOT mobile 6 series . They can't all be wrong can they?

    So basically what I'm trying to say is that mobile Sandy Bridge CPU's are forward compatible with mobile Ivy Bridge platforms but mobile Ivy Bridge CPU's are not backward compatible with mobile Sandy Bridge platforms. On desktop it works both ways.

    Correct, Like some of the NBR members with m18x r2's were running their 2960xm till they could afford the 3940xm or the 3920xm, if memory serves me right the MSI laptops do the same, if its Ivy bridge you can slap a sandy bridge in it altho you can't do that in reverse, altho your ability to work with the multipliers may not be the same as the m18x r2's, probably requires a unlocked bios in order to do it.

    The locked BIOS is the killer for a lot of people trying to do these kinds of major hardware upgrades.
