Newegg's closed for the weekend. If anyone's dealt with a Newegg return, can you fill me in?

I want to return a hard drive I just received today, unused but the bag is ripped open.

Their website says all refunds are "subject" to a 15% restock.

    Subject to what?
Do they assess the fee across the board?
Is return shipping on the customer's nickel?

If you are returning it because you do not want it- then yes- there may be a restocking fee. And if you return it- it will be your nickle to pay to get it back to them.

If the item is defective and you are returning it for a RMA then no restocking fee- and you can get them to give you a shipping label- however it's UPS ground and can take several days to get to them.

If it's a small item, in your case a HDD, then send it through USPS. Much faster and more reliable. I sent my CPU in for an RMA to Newegg a week and a half ago and it took less than 3 days from the time I sent it for them to send out a new one.

    Great service. :)

Oh and if you've been a loyal customer for some time, you can have Newegg remove that 15% restocking fee if you contact them either via phone or email. But don't overdo it.

Also, pay the extra for a shipping confirmation from USPS. I always do this whenever returning anything by the Postal Service.

You can also use their chat service on the site for any questions.I purchased a couple of laptops from them before but then I changed my mind.I used the chat and I found it very helpful, just told me to refuse the delivery and I got my refund back later with no restocking fee.
