Hello,
I'm from Germany and have just ordered a Lenovo T400, which ships to a Miami shipping company that will send it to me. (Lenovo doesnt ship to foreign countries directly).
Price was about $1200 and I wondered when I was advised to pay additional ~$70 for taxes (I guess this is Florida taxes, I dont quite understand it all.)
Is Lenovo obliged to get my taxes on their own to ship the parcel out? Couldnt perhaps the taxes be refunded or something when going to such a company that will directly ship it out?
Thanks for help,
Jens

This Wikipedia article may be of help. (As with most Wikipedia articles, it's probably not 100% accurate.)
By the way, I find your user name combined with the fact that you're in Germany (which causes me to assume you're German)... interesting. -
Hi and thanks for your reply,
I assume (if I didn't get it wrong out of the Lenovo website) that Lenovo will ship from North Carolina, not Florida.

*This is a simplification. Depending on the exact location to which an order is shipped, other governments and entities may get a share of the sales tax. For example, here in New York City, New York State gets about half of the sales tax, the City gets about half, and a regional transit agency called the Metropolitan Transit Authority, which serves New York City and the surrounding area, gets a tiny piece.

I sounds like they are technically selling it to a middle man who is then shipping it to you. In which case assuming that Lenovo has a physical presence in that state, sales tax is going to be collected and passed on to you.
