Wow, even better than this earlier price!
I might pick up one or two of these.
What coupon code do I use to get the $25 off? -
I am tempted, but I too wonder where the coupon code is!

that is a good deal, me as a capacity freak would have gotten two of these for my g50v in a heartbeat. Thing is I just sold it
The W90 "only" has 320gb drives but they are 7200rpm so the 80gb more is not really worth it probably.... So maybe I'll get one for my EEE since its on a 250gb drive.
edit: ballocks tried like 7 different codes I found online none of them work all where "already redeemed. Totally useless deal without a working code. -
I picked this up last week. The coupons are available on eBay. There's a $25 off $75 and some other $5 coupon, not sure what, but it worked. I paid $2.50 for the coupons. As always make sure the codes haven't expired before buying.
-
You need to buy the coupon from Ejunkie.
Search it -

If you knew the code already wouldn't you not have to buy it at all? Or do you just mean they list an expiration date for the code? Though all the codes I tried last night had not hit there expiration date. -
For the E-junkie codes, they send you an email via paypal with the codes.
Just a note for you guys, the second code I bought worked, but Staples accepted my code, ran out of stock, then canceled my order. -
wait, is it a coupon code? or a instore coupon?
EDIT: i found the e deal junkie one... how long does it take to get the code/did they all work? -
It takes up to a few minutes in my experience. Really quick. And I haven't heard of any complaints about fake coupons yet.
-
Does any one find it weird that you need to buy a coupon?
-
i get them mailed to me all the time but when i dont have any i get them from ejunkie.
-
i'm not sure if i'm gona get it :/ i kinda want a non external power one
Still though, considering the HDD inside the enclosure, its a good price for just that -
these dont need external power just a usb slot.
-
Not bad looking at the price in this post. Good deal.
-
oh, haha, them i'm getting it
Ordering now, just installing the paypal plugin because i have money there i need to use xD
EDIT: wow, the paypal plugin is impressive! -
Thanks!
Just ordered another one. I ordered one the first time around, received it, and just ordered a second.
Great deal! -
yeah ordered a total of 4 the first time and so far have got another 3 this time around.. ill order another one today i think also. we use these at my offices and they are great for a backup drive at each desk

I just ordered one, it was like $60 when all was said and done due to the $1.60 for the cupon from ejunkie, and the $3.85 for tax. But still thats not bad. I am out of hdd space and need to store some anime somewhere so a little external drive should work really well for that. I can fill it up and store it away until I want to watch something I have on it.
Bleach & Naruto alone can probably fill it up
+rep for the OP been looking for a HDD deal, though I really wanted something like a 1tb drive internal or external. -
yeah these are great drives and no rebates lol
-
I am going to my local Staples store tomorrow to pick mine up. I opted for store pick-up because I am travelling so much this month that I don't want it sitting in front of my door for days.
Great little deal. I have a ton of portable externals now but they have been a Godsend when I am travelling. I have each external devoted to a particular segment of TV on DVD, ie. British Sitcoms, TV Comedies of the 90s, etc. I just grab what I want when I leave the house.
The Case Logic hard drive cases are awesome too. -
Well I was going to buy one of these when I got back from Spring Break, but I wasn't paying attention and bought a coupon off eBay was sent via snail mail rather than email. Oops. Now I'm trying to decided if I buy another coupon and buy now, or just wait for the coupon to get here in a day or two and risk the deal dieing.

A warning: these drives only have a one year warranty, as opposed to WD passports which have a 3 year warranty, or seagates which have a 5 year warranty.
Also, the case is made out of plastic, not metal -
the cases on the segates is plastic as well i own a few trust me, and the drive inside is a oem drive. i have pulled one and i called wd and this may not always be the case but i gave them the serial and they said it was a oem drive covered for 3 years.. so not sure there. these are still great for the price
-
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
Says otherwise (case is Al). He also has a more full review which Chaz has removed the link for in the above thread. -
hmm i have 2 of them and they are both black but the same shape and both are a black glossy plastic 100% not metal housings on mine i can squeeze it and its for sure plastic.. not sure why they have different ones. i assure you the ones i have are plastic. i do LIKE those they look pretty sweet..
either way these elements are great drives. i own a ton of them and ive dropped one out my car door onto my cement driveway and it still works just fine -

I was not concerned about durability,,,,,, I'm sure the HDD will fry before the casing in case of shock
; but I like metal casings as they dissipate heat better, prolonging the HDD life.
The one year warranty is also unpleasant, but I guess I'll use my CC warranty in the 2nd year. I sure wish I had used my Amex for this purchase (I used Visa) -
well as i said when i called i told wd i bought these 400gb bare drives from newegg (just to see their response) and wanted to check the warranty. i gave them the serial of the drive inside not on the case and they told me it was the normal warranty they said it was simply a oem drive they mentioned nothing about the external case but maybe that person didnt know what they were doing not sure but thats what they told me today on the phone
-
I decided to go ahead and order an additional one (actually my third). I can always use another one of these.
-
WOW! That is amazing! I ordered this drive about noon yesterday and it just showed up about 11 AM today! That was fast! The drive is OK, casing is cheap plastic, but I can't complain at this price. And since I'm not going to be using it on the go a lot, it will be more than fine. Still can't believe it got here over night though!
-
inside it has a metal cage like thing around the drive so i think it will be reasonably durable as i said i dropped one pretty good and it was fine without any issues the case got a few nicks in it but nothing more.

Got the drives today too. Man this thing vibrates. The drive is on my desk, and I can feel the vibrations even through my 8lb laptop
Now I know why they put on the rubber caps... -
Mine had some vibration, but nothing like that. Then again I haven't really stressed in yet, only moving a few hundred MB so far.
-
yeah mine hardly makes any noise or vibrates at all
-
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
I tried the 2nd HDD; that is much more normal; no excessive vibration. Only the first one is a bit excessive. I guess some casing artifact, or maybe looser rubber caps ?
I do like the design esp, the big rubber caps. Its much more stable on the desk. The WD passport on the other hand has a tendency to slide around.
Anyone know why these drives are priced so much lower the the WD passports ? IHMO, these are better built.
And is the case plastic ? Seems like mag alloy to me. -
Mine is like that, no noise, only vibrates if i touch it (well o can only notice it, ofc it vibrates xD)
pretty fast, vary small, i'm very glad i can ditch my flashdrive key-ring now! -
yep i was carrying around flashpens everywhere lol.. no now.. just oss one of these in the bag and go. has everything i need to go out and do work program wise
-
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
I would not ditch flashdrives; these are still HDDs, and can and do get damaged by shock.
You can these HDDs around, just have to be a tad careful -
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
I checked the warranty on these drives, mine is only till 1/25/2010; only 10 months
http://websupport.wdc.com/warranty/serialinput.asp?custtype=end&requesttype=warranty&lang=en
They are asking for $25 for a 2 year warranty extension -- this may help you guys who are comparing these drives with other 3 year warranty drives. -
did you take the drive out and check the number on the drive itself? the lady from wd told me these were 3 year. ill double check over the phone tomm
whats really messed up is i also checked 3 other drives i bought straight from newegg they were brand new oem drives and they are only warr till jan 2011??? that sucks these should be 3 year and i literally just bought them
oh now i see what stinks now with wd is the warr is from the manufacture date not the sales date man thats sucks -
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
Can the enclosure be put back together after opening it ?
staples back up 400gb wd elements drive 55$
