I'd like to see more business-class laptop offerings. Less of these flimsy, decorative consumer-class options.![]()

I'd like all laptops to be well built, everything should be well-made and look good / classy. I strongly dislike the filmsy looking ones.

Personally, I'd only be concerned about the looks of my computer in my friends' eyes only if they're willing to pay for said computer.

True, though when people admire something you chose it feels pretty good I guess. -
Well, what I was going for is that if someone is concerned about how their friends will view their purchase, maybe said friends should pitch in on that purchase. Otherwise their opinions can be safely ignored as far as I’m concerned.

Honestly I would like to see a good docking stations that makes it easy going from office, to home and make it seamless.

@Commandor there are WiGiG docks, depreciated in favour or wireless VR - but it only makes them cheaper, while WiGiG adapters & antenna should still be available on some devices, and easy to install on others. One can set it to connect automatically when the laptop is within range.
On the plus side, even if laptop doesn't come with WiGiG and thus requires new WLAN adapter, corresponding antenna and cable - these upgrades combined with WiGiG docking station will be cheaper than any Thunderbolt3, and most USB-C docking stations.
Major con is they are unable to run 4K@60Hz - will have to wait for 802.11ay roll-out for that; current solutions typically max out at 2560x1600@60Hz for single monitor or 1920x1200@60Hz for each of two monitors.Last edited: Nov 15, 2017alexhawker likes this. -

If there were some version of the magnetic connectors the Surface tablets had on them that worked for a dock that would be awesome. -
Laptop with one or 2 full pcie x16 slots(like msi gs60 shadow), so i may connect some external gpus to then in sli, external gpus are always cheaper and better then mxm, along with a laptop with laga socket!

More of the RGB!!!!

Integrated water cooling on laptops, so that we can put in more powerful GPU/CPU!

A fairly large tablet that can double as an external display. Sort of like the docking netbooks of a couple generations ago crossed with a Surface Studio, with a high refresh low latency display.

So I am at the point where I need something like
I want to have 1080ti + 8700k in a laptop.
I want it to not be over 5 KG in weight,
I want it to be really snazzy looking
And under 3K$.
I am a worker, who needs a workstation. I do graphical work, so I need those things. Basically, a portable desktop
Beforte you ask, displays for laptops, I need a 43" IPS display to work, and I have one, so whatever they come with will be useless to discuss anymore, at 17.3". it looks like it was made for really tiny people./Last edited by a moderator: Feb 21, 2018 -
I usually just hook mine into an external, but I had a chuckle imagining you carrying around a 43 inch laptop.
I think I mentioned before I'd like to see the return of over sized DTR laptops with a desktop component focus.

No point in having a 43" monitor, imho. I'm hoping that laser 4k projectors with 3000+ lumen will fall into the sub $2,000 range. That will eliminate all my problems.
-
43" 4K - it is the same densityt as a 19" FHD display, just more surface.
You can do a lot with it -> Code, anime, movies, work, everything is better at that size.mason2smart likes this. -
This would be something i'd be eager to see:
- 13 to 14", Blinding bright 4K Amoled Touchscreen
- i7 8550U or i7 8650U
- GTX 1060 Max-Q
- Large WP-Trackpad
-Fingerprint Scanner
- TB3 4x for eGPU
- SD Card Reader
- RGB Keyboard
- Fat battery
- Convertible
- Decent cooling with some headroom for gaming in the sahara
- Upgradable RAM, WLan, M.2 (x2)
This would be something i'd buy, if i had the money. -
AMD GPU/CPU + Freesync that cost less than Nvidia counterparts.

I keep hearing that roll-up displays are imminent, wonder how soon we could get something in the 40"-50" range that you can carry around in a tube. That would be awesome, you could have the machine in a box/pack, the screen rolled into a tube and then a folding frame attached to the side of the tube, so it turns into its own stand.Georgel likes this. -

Well hell, if Valerie came to fruition, we'd at least have screen real-estate to work with until roll-up displays or better projectors become the norm.
For that matter, why not have a roll-up screen instead of a roll-up display? Build the projector into the laptop & combine it with a roll-up screen so you can have a 30+ display "on the go". -

Valerie looked like it was just begging, pleading even, to be accidentally broken. I'd sooner take a VR headset with me and use a virtual desktop for working, or suffer through a projector for presentation. -

Somehow, I don't think a built-in pico-projector is out of the question...but there's not enough "outside of the box" thinking to even build a prototype....yet

Maybe Acer will try it. Whatever you think of the 21X, they were the ones who had the courage to actually release something as out there as a curved screen laptop. If anyone would build in a projector to a laptop, I'd look at them. Everyone else has been playing it much safer. -
Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC (Ryzen 1700 + RX 580 - desktop grade components).
AMD APU - Ryzen 2500u + Vega (8?) iGP and Ryzen 2700u + Vega (10?) iGP.
What I would like to see is a laptop with all AMD hardware that uses lower voltages and proper cooling execution so the machine can sustain maxed out CPU+GPU at the same time indefinitely and not go above 70 degrees C (in terms of higher end hardware).
Plus a decent battery. -

With all the trouble Intel is going through right now they'd be crazy not to try and put something like that out. Here's hoping. -

I mean seriously, when will this come? This should have been a priority for the last decade.
Now usb-c has been finalized, has created a mess, and still no ability to use a portable (laptop) screen as a portable screen....Aroc and alexhawker like this. -

Portable screen for what though? I can see the use with older systems, but most/all of the things I'd have wanted to use a laptop as an external display for in the past I can pretty much now do from the machine itself and cut the source device out of the equation entirely.alexhawker and Georgel like this. -
If I have to travel with my ps4 or something. It would be nice to have something with a better screen than the sentry/centurion.

That was the one use I could think of for it, and I recall there used to be Alienware models that have it, along with a couple of others if memory does not fail me. Not sure why it stopped being a thing. -
Yea, no one used it a lot.
Streaming would be another good use for it. Streaming off a console while traveling.
I'd like to see the Optical bay get swapped for an expansion bay, most laptops are dropping it. Maybe we would we it come back for a pcie 2x or something.

I wouldn't say no to external PCIe connections. -
Video input adds a lot of utility. If you are away from your home setup, or out on site, you could have multiple displays easily.
I thought when we finally got usb-c, we would be able to connect device to device and use one as input.
Not only would it add utility to current hardware, but could have made older devices usable beyond their lifespan.
There really is no reason not to have this feature. Just my 2¢ -
I could find use for it. Especially with a picture in picture with a hot key swap. Particularly when I have to go work on friends computers or like I posted erlier running q console through it.

I am absoltuely sure that I couldn't find a use for that at any given moment, but I have like 3 external displays, 2 tablets and more to feed me data, I keep the display of my lappt closed...
-
Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
You can use any reasonably old device running Windows 10 as wireless display via Windows Connect feature. It works great! Older devices can only act as receivers, though, and 802.11ac adapters on both devices involved are strongly recommended. -
For light productivity use, that might be ok or get you by.
But that does not allow use of devices that can only output video by direct connection. Like the example a few comments back, such as a PS4.
No point in arguing the utility of such a feature. It would only be beneficial.
Sadly though, it does not look like it will ever be a reality. One can dream... -

I wasn't trying to say no one could find utility, but it was tried before and didn't really catch on. Add to that there is extra expense, engineering, physical space on the board, an extra port, etc, the demand has to outweigh that and I don't believe it does.

I heard a linux os named "LineageOS" who makes custom roms for mobiles are working on a desktop varian, that can run any application of windows and linux!
Anyways the lineageos is oneof the best mobile os I've flashed on my phone, and if these rumors are true, we all are going to be obliged!Mr. Fox likes this. -

I just want a power cord that doesn't come unplugged so easily. I had an ASUS for about a week that clipped in, loved it (didn't realize the BIOS was so locked down you couldn't tweak the raid). but other than that the connectors seem to pull out so easily.

Clevo power plugs do not slide out easily AFAIK
-
Some of them do. I think there are some QC issues that cause some to fit correctly and stay plugged in, while others are sloppy loose and can fall out when moving the laptop. But, I had the same issue with some of the Alienware, Dell and HP laptops. I think it is sloppiness in the AC adapter socket soldered to the motherboard more so than the tips on the ends of the AC adapters.
-
Interesting fact.
BTW, I also became a PC user, but with a smaller build than you did there

- Scheduling and management - > where are the laptops that help manage time and projects. So many bad apps.
