I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 and am wondering if anyone has managed to hook up the XPS M1710 LEDs from the LCD cover and palmrest / touchpad to work on the 9400 / E1705. If so, how did you do it and was it hard to get them to work? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think it is possible, but not 100% sure.

Not possible, because the E1705 motherboard is missing the connectors you need for the LEDs to work, even if you had the LEDs themselves. I have seen a mod of someone who made his E1705 light up with internal LEDs, but he had to reroute power from one of his USB ports, and thus lose a USB port.

As quiong said, you can stick in some ordinary LEDs and power them up from a USB port, and even make a small circuit (if you can find a place to squeeze it in) to control or make them blink. But it sure would be a messy job, and you may end up damaging your notebook if you don't know what you are doing.
