...Clear/transparent laptop chassis! I'm watching hackers now and drooling over the idea of having a clear/transparent laptop chassis.

Hey! There's a nice new business niche - making replica laptop casings out of clear materials based on molds you pull from the original OEM casing - heck, once you've done the first copy of a particular laptop model, after that you don't need to create a new mold for further orders for that same model.

I'm serious here, not poking fun.

I'm gonna throw out there that you would need some seriously good materials for this to work. You sold someone a casing and it cracks, damages their computer...uh oh.

the clear acrylic has a lower melting point than normal plastic, making it harder to mill as it can melt with the friction

That, or make sure you're doing business in a state that lets you waive all warranties, and then make sure you give a warranty waiver upfront that does the trick. :p

Just looked cool and brought back memories of some Toshiba that was transparent back in the mid 90s. As for acrylic I have a clear acrylic desktop case that is 100% plastic and it easily handled the high heat I put it through.

But hey I still love my spartan looking vostro, and Im dreaming of a think pad...
