My screen has recently broken. Does anyone know if it is generally possible replace the chassis of the laptop myself (i.e. move all the components into another empty barebone)? If so, is there anything important I should bear in mind?

Also, does anyone know where I can buy a OCZ 17" Intel DIY barebone? Everywhere appears to be out of stock..

    Regards,
    OGLES

Yes, it's possible. One thing I can't stress enough is when transporting parts (especially the MB) be careful not to drop it, or put it down hard, etc. How is your screen broken? Is it just the screen, or the chassis?

Check out around eBay for a Barebone - I'm not too sure about anywhere else, though.

    Thanks for the reply.

The laptop screen hinge is absolutely STUCK - won't budge at all. I'm completely baffled as to how it could have gotten locked so badly, considering it is supposed to usually rotate quite freely, and if anything, the obvious thing you would expect from wear and tear is to become more loose - not more stiff!

I presume you have experience in this? If there are any suggestions for fixing the laptop hinge, that would be good too btw!

Buy a same model with internal parts dead "for parts" on ebay but no clue how lucky you get to find 1.

Is there any way you could spray a bit of WD40 or some sewing machine oil into that hinge? That should lubricate it and soften any dirt that may be stuck inside.
