    Hi,

I am in the progress of rebuilding my Dell Inspiron 6000. It is going on 3 years old now, Has been out of use since 2 years ago when the LCD Backlight went in it. So far I have replaced the 15.4 LCD with a 14.1 screen due to the fact of being unable to purchase the 15.4. I have custimized the whole LCD framing so that it will accept a 14.1.I am also in midprogress of repainting. I am going for a two tone of what they call Navy from Krylon, and a gloss black for the "Dell Stripes" on either side. I will post pictures when I have finished it.

    I forgot the question, lol.

I am using the krylon fusion spray paint, How can I protect it from damage once it has dried? And how long does it take to dry before it can handle "Abuse ;) "? And does anyone have any suggestions?

I have decided to keep the Dell Stripes white, Paint the inside of the LCD casing black, Paint the inside of the dell stripes on the palmrest, etc blue, and blue for the back of the LCD casing. Will post pictures when I am done ;)

When I painted one of my laptops, I put Krylon Clearcoat on top to seal it off. The stuff feels dry after about an hour but the paint is actually very soft for at least a day after, so be patient. I unfortunately wasn't, and re-assembled my laptop after only maybe 2 hours, ended up messing up all of my hard work.

Also... why couldn't you get a 15.4" display? They're readily available all over the internet.

    Hi,

The reason I went with the 14.1" was becuase it was for sale, it was a Dell B120 and mine is the I6000. I only paid 50.00 for the B120, and I bought it becuase my laptop needed a bit more then a LCD, It could have gotten away with just the LCD, But the DVD drive was starting to get fussy, along with some other parts, I was also missing quite a few screws as this laptop sat apart for a year and it moved with us to our new house. I have finaly decided to paint the Dell Stripes black for the reason it was starting to become a pain to remove the over spray from the blue ( As I did not tape it off becuase I was just going to paint it black anyways).

I replaced the 15.4 screen becuase I have had no money to buy a screen that fits it. I also needed quite a few other parts, CD/DVD reader, HDD,etc.

    I have a question,

Do I really need the clear coat? Or will the paint not withstand abuse? I have put at least 3 -4 coats of the Fusion paint on. But am not fond of the clear coat
