    what degree of difficulty??? Here are a couple things I have been thinking about

    dissassembly and paint ... I am thinking of painting the keyboard on my next paintjob (I think this would rock with the wood grain idea)
    woodgrain paint .... old barn wood with rusted nails and brackets holding it together
    a window
    chromed notebook (or actually painted to look like chrome)
    a busted up paintjob (notebook looks broken, cracked, can see inside)
    Leather top, brass or copper corner guards, and a piano black interior
