I'm moving into an apartment for school soon and I want a monitor to hook up to my NP8660 notebook so that I can run it with dual screens. I'm going into Graphic design and I find the more screen space.. the better.

I was also thinking I kinda want a new TV for school too, so I can take my wii with me and maybe pick up an Xbox 360 or PS3 (Still can't decide which).

Then I started thinking.. my notebook has an HDMI port. Why not buy an LCD TV and use that for a second screen!

I'm sure there are some people who have done this, any thoughts or advice on it?

That would work just fine. As long as it is at least 720p is is very usable.

Thanks. I'm going to try and get a 1080p at a reasonable price if I can, seems the best route to go if I can.

1080p is just like a computer monitor, 720p is a bit restricting but very usable.

As a web developer/designer I find that having large - multiple monitors is a major necessity. You might also want to look into getting a Wacom Tablet. There are great deals on E-Bay and Craigslist, but I would thoroughly research the screen you plan on buying.

An excellent resource for Wacom information, and what screen to buy is the official Adobe Photoshop forums.

    Good luck in your ventures!

If you are looking for a computer monitor for graphics stuff there are also special monitors that have more colors and have better color accuracy. But those cost some money.

I am on my wacom now, I use a 4x5 Graphire 4, but constantly hunting for a deal on a Intuos4 Medium.

I find I can work with 1920x1080 just fine in photoshop, I suppose though if I spoiled myself with dual screens it would be a tad hard to go back to just one. The optimal layout for me would probably be all the toolbars/windows on one screen and use the other just as my canvas.

However if your wise with your menu's and toolbars you dont use much screen space for them and zoom is always there to make your work area smaller/larger as needed.
