I have an eye sore on my T61 that I would like to get rid of, the Windows sticker that Lenovo had to stick on the palm rest. I am tempted to pry it off, but don't want to scar the surface. What would be the best way getting it off?
-
Funny I just went and bought some new OEM Vista/Nvidia/Intel stickers for the new palm rest Lenovo replaced for me.
To remove it, just peel it off slowly. You can also use a hairdryer to warm it up a little before peeling if off, but not too much though. Then any residue left, use a piece of tape to remove them instead of rubbing alcohol. I find that Lenovo palm rests will have discoloring problem if you use rubbing alcohol on it. -
where did you buy new stickers? i like having them on there, i am curious to how it would look without them, but then i might have crappy looking stickers.

Those ugly advertising stickers are the first thing to go from any device I own.
-
Most notebook stickers dont leave residue aslong as you peel it slowly.
If you keep the stickers on for years it will leave a tan mark when you remove it -

I hate those stupid little metal stickers. I have pulled them off of every notebook I have ever owned.
But of course i do the same to cars that i purchase from dealerships.
I just hate things that try to get free advertisement on my time...and it makes the computer look ugly with its "so does not match" stickers maring the case.
I just peel and then use a tiny bit of goo-gone to polish up the surface of the case. Wipe it clean and your good to go and sticker free -
Use a plastic razor blade.

The only one I took off is that huge specs one. -
I lost my stickers when dell replaced my palm rest. It made me sad
-
If you take one off, can you put it back on? On my laptop, the intel sticker is straight, but the vista sticker is noticeably crooked. it drives me crazy. I've been too worried that it would leave sticky stuff on my palm rest or i wouldnt be able to get it off so i haven't tried.
-
I particularly hate that Windows Vista sticker... it's so much more forcibly adhered to the laptop than the rest. I got the rest off ASAP, but the blasted Vista sticker has stuck for 6 months!
I have an ASUS G1S and it is applied right to the metal palm rest... the problem with that palm rest is that the metal is so grainy, if you run you fingernail across the grain it will break and make chips in your fingernail. I therefore cannot pick at the top of the sticker as I did for the rest.
Can anyone seriously offer me a suggestion about how to get rid of that sticker? I thought I was starting to see results with a very slightly damp towel, but even that was a fruitless venture. "To remove, just peel it away slowly" doesn't work here. I haven't tried the hair dryer, but I will...
GET AWAY, DAMNED VISTA STICKER! -
You're gonna have lovers and haters. I personally like them, they're like stripes on a soldiers uniform telling everyone what rank they are. My friend on the other hates them.

I too bought a Vista and a nVidia sticker from eBay a couple of weeks back. I might even put an openSUSE sticker, but for that I might have to probably print it my self.

I like them as long as they stay stuck on the laptop.
I took the vista sticker off of my 1520 because I have xp pro on it. Right now I need an XP sticker and 2 Nvidia stickers (for 1420 and 1520) -
OK. I think i have the solution that the OP (and maybe others) has been waiting for. Once upon a time I also had problems with stickers on my sleek electronics leaving behind nasty residues that were impossible to get off without damaging the underlying material.
So - Get a bottle of SkinSoSoft (weird amirite) peel off the sticker first, then when you see any leftover residue, take a towel (not paper; cloth) and put an amount of the SSS liquid comparable to the amount of residue you have. rub the liquid gently into the sticky area until it becomes saturated. Once you are at this point just rub slightly rougher with your cloth and the residue will come right off, leaving no outline or other residue behind. The SSS is very gentle but it will smell.... soapy... for a little while. Washing with some warm water will probably take away 99 percent of the fragrance (unless you like it). -
hey StewieGriffin, where is local you mentioned.? is it a chain store or just some guy.? i would prefer not to order form china if i don't have to for a 2 dollar sticker.
-
I got the stickers off really easy, they didn't even leave any residue! Thanks!
As for stickers, I like some. My centrino and Windows stickers are pretty ugly, but I like the blue Core 2 and Nvidia stickers. -
use a hairdryer warm it up then they peal easy, work with license keys too
-
just peel it off. any residue left get some meguires yellow automotive wax (actually called yellow wax) put a small little bit on let it sit for a few seconds ... then wipe any residue off. the yellow wax will not harm the metal surface or any plastic one either and the residue literally wipes off..

I peeled the windows sticker off, and guess what? It left some evil adhesive behind that I had to battle for 20 minutes to get off. I tried to scratch the stuff off first, then got a wash cloth. I got frustrated and tried windex to no avail. Then my mom gave me some adhesive remover that they use on hospital patients and in seconds the stuff was gone.
Thanks Microsoft for punishing me for taking off the sticker! -
why does nobody listen to me about this, get a hair dryer place over the sticker for 20 seconds then you will see the sticker starting to lift off then give it a peel it leaves nothing behind
trust me about this -
To get rid of the sticker, use a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab or cloth and wipe as you peel the sticker back.
-
I usually use a razor blade to start removing stickers untl I get enough sticker to grab wih my fingers. You have to be real careful not to damage the palmrest with the razor blade though (but even if you do, it's going to be covered with a sticker).
-
ha ha..I have total 7 stickers on my M50, yet I didn't really pay attention to them till I read this topic. these stickers doesn't have anything to do with warranty right? I guess I'll take some of them off too..
-
I just pulled mine off right away... even before I first booted the notebook! Just peeled them off really quick; no leftover residue, no scratches.
Yeah stickers are the first thing to go, along with lisence plate frames etc. -
I leave mine on... I only have two though. But they are off to the side and dont bother me. I kinda like them, they represent the specs on your computer. Im actually thinking of buying one that says nVidia on it. lol

You can also buy plastic razor blades at Lowe's
-
As was previously mentioned in this thread. Simply peal off the stickers. If there is any residue left behind, all you need to do is wet part of a paper towel with some "Goo Gone", and the residue will wipe right off. That's what I did with my new notebook that I just got, and it worked perfectly. Goo Gone was recommend by Asus tech support, and I can testify to it's ease of use and effectiveness. No blades or any other thing needed, it works perfectly.

I have a Compal, no stickers at all.

Search on eBay.
The most specific they get is usually What Centrino Platform it is, which isnt even stated. But if you Search eBay "8600M GT Sticker" i did once find a sticker that actually was that specific. Im thinking about buying one that says 8600M GS on it -
peeling them off doesn't damage the surface, just make sure u don't use a knife or anything to peel them off. you know what i think is funniest is i see so many people, usually older, that leave all the labels and stickers on their laptop. you know those stickers you see on a display demo at the store? those ones. lol don't people realize you're supposed to take those off!

This is what I do..
take a steam iron and keep it about 3 or 4 inches above the sticker..then as the steam is released onto the sticker try and take it out in one go..because the speed of removal will be so fast, there will be hardly any time for the adhesive to remain and thus no residue..btw..the steam makes the adhesive soft..
