I have an asus s96s laptop and at the palm rest there is a dark spot. I've tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and other things but the dark spot wont come off I was wondering if I could use any other things to take off the dark spot thanks for the help in advance.

I was also wondering if there was anything to cover the palm rest area so it wont get dirty again.

definately. my black keyboard has little dark spots where the finish coat has been rubbed away by excessive spacebarring and such

nothing to worry about...if it bothers you that much, you could probably find out what type of clear coat they use and add another layer, but it seems to much of a hassle/risky.

Some users also purchase stickers or other vinyl covers to prevent/cover up paint damage.

what happens is your hands actually end up "polishing" sorta the surface they make an super shiny area which appears a different color or shade of black. its kind like if you wet sanded a car panel and made it hazy in a way and then polished just a small circle the plastic paint they apply does not in fact use a "clear coat" its simply a form of a dye they put onto the plastics these types of coatings are made to have a small bit of texture to them.. and that ends up getting rubbed down and making a smooth area, what you can try is a small bit a "glazing compound" or a super fine swirls remover for auto paint and applying it around that area and "polishing" the rest of the area.

i work with plastics every day and the dyes for them. if you decide to go farther i recc sem brand dyes to recoat the area, now if it were a black paint with a different color underneath there would be no way once you wear through the black paint to fix that, i took off the stickers on my sager and it left slightly darker spots where they were i used the swirl remover to repolich the palmrest and its all evened out now.
