The schickers was getting scuffed up, so I decided to paint the notebook.

nice job jack..were you trying to have matching colored laptops and desktops?
-
nice paint job man, lol that blue looks almost exactly the same as the ipod nano blue
-
WOW that looks nice.
What did you use to paint it? Looks sprayed on. -
Thanks for the nice compliments.
I used automotive Medium Quasar Metalic.
Four coats of grey primer, 6 coats of the paint. In 4 weeks I'll rub it out and spray 4 coats of clear.
I'm trying to get everything to match in my computer room. I painted the desktop on the left and the monitor too.
-
That is one nice setup!
-
lol are you gonna paint to room to match too?
-
nice work!

to take it to the next level. It really is not hard and makes everything look great. -

And I'm AMAZED at your latest desktop creation that your building... and that chair you have! -

Wow, last time I saw you was over @ NBF. Long time no see,
Anyways, very nice paint job, I love the blue and how it goes with the other 2 pcs! -
LOL!
.......... (message too short)
-
I took too many shots over at NBF... too many jerks. So I left. This forum is much nicer.
What other two pixs are you talking about?
DUH! My Bad. I see you meant pieces... -
Hey headshot, if u want to meet up with a bunch of NBF refugees, go to these places (as well as NBR - all three are GREAT places with great mods). I hope NBR kicks NBFs ass into the ground.

Dude I live in Salem, Oregon. YOu should come to a PDXLAN bud.
www.pdxlan.com -
Wow! I had relatives that lived in Salem, (nephew still does) for several years. Lancaster is a BAD street, (traffic).
Lived in Salem myself for one year in 1996. (actually between Salem and Woodburn on a friends ranch... I had a motorhome) I was on my way from Medford, OR to Seattle.
Okay, I'm checking pdxlan now. -
tisk tisk

Very nice!! I almost want to color over my FE now =D
-
This looks pretty nice. Congrats.
-
Hey, DB, how's things (hopefully not so much ducttape and crisco...)?
I am thinking about getting a Hypersonic CX7 (with the core2Duo). As you have a hypersonic what can you tell me about them? -
im jealous of your room...
lol
-
They ordering process was a bit of a pain as with any other company. I had a bad GPU right off the bat but they had a new one to me within days. Other than that I have had no problems so I have not even heard from them (been over a year now).
A suggestion tho: Check out buying a laptop from Smooth Creations first. They use the same stuff as Hyper and AW.

Very very nice paint job
-
WOW! They have some nice stuff there! I'm impressed.
-
I will do so. Glad to see you have found a home on the net after the fiasco at NBF (man that place has gone downhill)...
-
And why I left too. There were some NASTY people who like to fight over there at NBF.
-
you are improvin
-
I didn't improve, it is this site that is a BIG improvement over NBF!!!

How many here have painted their own notebooks?
Were you happy with it?
For me, I'd say yes, I'm happy with it and I saved a LOT of $$$ doing it myself PLUS the satisfaction that I did it myself too.
How many here have someone else paint your notebooks?
Were you happy with it? Why or why not?

Hmm what was your technique?? dissasembly or tape it off??
I have used that spray on automotive paint before on a few projects and it came out great everytime! but I dunno if I would paint my electronics ^^ (atleast not a notebook so much, my desktop I can easilty take apart and have just the case) -
With a notebook, masking real good is the secret. Next would be spraying several very light coats and letting it dry overnight between each coat. 4 primer, 4 base & 4 clear, then in 4 weeks, rub it out and wax it. I've painted several notebooks over the years with very good results. Always sold the notebook for more with the nice paint job too.

Hmm wax it
seems abit much
im assuming you mean buff & wax just like you do a car. guess I'll have to try it, just be carfull on the lid, dont want the pressure to dmg the screen. -
I'd better correct myself a bit here. I didn't use a buffer. I rubbed it out by hand and buffed by hand. Your right, a buffer would be a bit too much!
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
oh I didnt mean an actual power buffer eather ( althought a small one might be ok, in my case I could even use my dremel)
-
HumanTorch Notebook Consultant NBR Reviewer
i have the exact same laptop actually
did you have to take it apart to paint it, could i get those paints at lowes or home depot, i dont know cars that much -
I would have guessed that easily
BTW great paint job !

Just very carefully mask it and you'll be fine. After masking, close it with a newspaper in it for more protection.
You can get that automotive paint at any Auto Parts Store. -
At the time... yes.
-
looks great, thats an amazing looking screen too!

seriously though...isn't it obvious? The ports don't even match up...and there's feet/back stops on the back of the original? I can't believe im the first one to point it out!

lol *no comments*

Yeah, I think an explanation here is needed.
Even the port Icons aren't the same

I thought I would post a picture of my completed paint job. I got tired of looking at the old dull off white. I think the results are pretty good, what do you guys think?
You really need to be careful when you mask it so you don't run into over spray issues and use several thin coats to lessen the chance for orange peel and paint pooling. -
You guys have too much time on your hands and need to get a life.
Apparently I put the wrong photo in and didn't realize it until now, (heck this was a year ago) I had used that corvette stickers on both notebooks, one shown would be the 17" HP and the actual dv4000 also. I was trying to show the difference and didn't notice the difference when I posted it. It was just a plain silver lid with some scratches on it. -
Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
Ha! Actually, I have and lead a fairly productive life, doing these kind of things just doesn't take that long.
You should be happy that for a post a year old still managed to bring out some discussion.
Cheers
Oh BTW the Vette looks great, love the door mod.
I painted my notebook...
