Hello im a bit new to this but my little nephew who is 10 years old an is going to be 11 on April 29th is nagging for about 2 months to get him a new laptop for his birthday as all of his friend have one and you know how kids are when they want something :D . So before i think about the laptop i just need to know the different types of materials which are used for lid/casing as he is a bit clumsy and has split water over my laptop once before and accidently dropped it quite a few times when playing in my house. I just want to know the materials to avoid and the best type of laptop lid casing and why?

    Thanks it would really help.

PS ive heard that ABS plastic material for the laptop lid is really crap is it?

If you fill out the faq we could probably give you a couple of laptops that would be just right for you :)

Maybe consider a Panasonic toughbook for your nephew, like the Toughbook-F8, which includes a spill-resistant keyboard:

Like the above poster said, a Panasonic Toughbook would fit your needs but I think the price is a bit too high.

-Build him a desktop? Spilled keyboards are no problem and he can brag to his friends that he built one. XD

The desktop would be the better alternative; unfortunately, that wouldn't satisfy his need to "join the club" and get a laptop like all his buddies. Still, you do have a good idea - perhaps the OP could bring the nephew around to the idea of a desktop if he could be persuaded that it was even "cooler" to have built his own desktop rather than have a notebook like everyone else.

If he's a gamer tell him that a desktop will game better.

Also mesmerize him with some of the pics from the "Show Us Your Room " thread. Some of the desktop setups really leave you drooling.

Depends on the 11 y.o. and his/her circumstances.

So is he still on the path of a laptop?
