    Magnet in laptop lid

    Its always really hard to decide which category to but next thread.

    Anyway I plugged out my earbuds of my head and threw them on the lid. What I noticed it hanged near camera center top. I looked it and noticed its really stucked there. I pull it away and repeatedly set them on magnet place. So my question is why there is magnet over there?

    Simple: There's a magnetic sensor in the base for detecting when the lid is closed. You can test it if you want to, just take a magnet (those earbuds may do however the magnet inside is very small/weak) and place it where the lid magnet will be with the lid closed. :)

    It could also screw up your hard drive

    Some model have magnet to keep the screen panel "aligned"/snap into place.

    Have you seen an actual hard drive degausser? A neodymium magnet doesn't even come close to destroying the hard drive, let alone a feeble laptop lid magnet.
