I recently picked up a C552 with a bad mobo and decided to cure that hideous top panel while waiting for the replacement board. I started by shaving the logo and the lines that run along the outer edges.

After a couple coats of primer, some wet sanding, a couple coats of black and a lot more wet sanding I have this.

Once I get the clear coat applied and polish it I'll post back.

Welcome to nbr,
pretty cool, its nice to see people who have the talent and willingness to tear a system down and paint it. + 1 rep
If you arent already, stick with Krylon Fusion paint, it is designed for plastics, and makes a very nice finish.
I am very interested in modding projects, since I do it all of the time, so please share the rest with us

Wow that is one shiny surface. I know from my experience that a smooth surface is a beautiful and reflective surface, and yours looks pretty smooth.
You did a good job

WOW thats so nice and shinny.Tells us what did you use to get this nice finish item.

As far as filler goes I used Evercoat Everglass for the bulk and Evercoat Metal Glaze to fill in any fine cracks or holes.
Paints: Dupli-color filler primer (high-build), Dupli-color black acrylic enamel and Dupli-color clear acrylic enamel.
Thanks for the complements! -
Very Nice job what is c552 model?
-
Whoa, reps. That is a job well done, right there.

Some-what bad news..the area where the logo was swelled (ever so slightly but I'm a bit O.C.D. when it comes to finishes)after 3 days so it looks like I'll be redoing this one. The rest remained the same. This time I'll do what I had originally planned. I had originally intended to have a marblized candy apple red biohazard symbol with smoke rising from it on top of the black.

That will look great!
