Well i finally got off my and finished my cooler, and i have to say im pleased with the results. What i did was took two 120mm case fans and mounted them to an old computer case lid. Took some time to do the metal work, but its sturdy enough to hold the weight of my laptop. Now all i need to do is do a stress test to see how effective it is. Any recommendations for a good stress test?
Here are the pics.

Nice mod!!
Could you also post a picture of the wiring? I am planning on making on of these as well, but I am a bit fuzzy on the wiring of the fans to the power source.
Thanks! -
I didnt take any pics for the wiring, but it is real easy to explain.
1. Find a power adapter that will meet the requirements for the fans( ie my fans take 12v and 400ma a piece so i got a 12v 1.5a adapter)
2. find out which wire is hot and which it the ground (on the adapter)
3. cut the connectors off of the end of the fans, and cut off the yellow wire. The yellow wire is not needed.
4. Red is hot and black is ground on the fan, so hook up the red wires to the hot wire on the adapter, and then hook up the black fan wires to the ground wire on the adapter.
5. Solder the connections and then use heat shrink wrap the secure the connection.
Thats all that you need to do. It took me only 10 min to wire it up. I take no responsibility for anyone who tries this and hurts themselves or anyone else or breaks anything. If you take your time and have some commonsense then it is easy. -
i ran 3D mark vantage with the cooler and got these temps after running it
and 5 min after
versus the 80+ degrees i was getting before the cooler. -
a bit ghetto, but nice work and nice results. i would definitely get those rough/sharp edges taken care of. then try to put some kind of reinforcement or "legs" to help support the cooler. u have to take rigidity into consideration cuz of the added weight from yur laptop + yur weight while usin the laptop.

Those blue lights are totaly alienware-style xD

looks didnt concern me much. If i took my time cutting the metal i could have made it look nicer. And when the laptop sits on it i use my usb keyboard and mouse, so no extra weight on the cooler besides the laptop.

Wow, the temperature drop is surprisingly good. Like an above suggestion though, get those edges taken care of. They look a bit rough as it is.

wiring doesn't look to up to code...

I would surely look into covering the rough edges because the table will suffer damages OR you will get cut. As houstoned also mentioned, reinforce the sides or over time the cooler will flatten itself due to gravity and movement.
Overall, it's a good project that needs to be cleaned up a bit. Most of all Congratulation!! -
wow that looks good.
good job
My finished cooler
