One of the complaints about the HP dv6000t is that the surfaces show fingerprints and scratches. To protect my new baby (and add a little color), I ordered this laptop skin from skinit.com through the HP site. Placed the order late last Friday. Shipped UPS on 30 April and arrived today, 3 May.
Pretty tricky to apply. Had to remove and reapply it a couple times to get it lined up. I think it's impossible to remove all the little air bubbles even with a credit card, but I got the bigger ones out. Also the corners pleat a bit.
Not as nice as a custom paint job, but anyone standing over 3 feet away won't spot the imperfections.
Overall, not a bad way to keep the backside of your screen free of prints.
Total cost: $30, plus tax and 4.99 shipping.

Wow, looks great, if you had told me it was a paint job I would have believed it just by looking at the pictures. Thanks for posting!
-
I'm not sure..but why do some of these HP laptops (like in the poster that came with my DV6000T) have the HP symbol in the middle. Mine just has it down near the bottom.
Very nice though, I really like it, markfm!

Looks Great
especially for $30 instead of $300!
-
Wow, that looks really good. I almost thought it was a paint job.
-
Very nice. Almost had me fooled there. Custom paint job quality

Awesome job mate. I'm thinking about this for the 6500t's, and let me ask you a couple questions.
What material is the skin made of? Removable? -
The backside is very sticky, but it is removable. If you do remove it, you have to pull if off slowly so you don't stretch the vinyl. I had to remove mine a couple times to get the alignment right and try to minimize the air bubbles.
Fortunately, it does not leave any residue on the computer.
Other posts have suggested spraying a bit of distilled water and window tint application fluid on the sticker before applying it. That way the sticker won't be so sticky when you first apply it, making it easier to remove the air bubbles with a squeegee. Then, just let it dry. If I could do it over again, I might give that technique a try.
However, the sticker looks really good! From a short distance, you really can't see the bubbles and imperfections, like the corners.
If you look at this as a stylish way to protect your laptop from scratches and fingerprints, I think you'll be very happy with it.
BTW, I typed in "Intel30" in the coupon code and got 9 dollars off. Don't know if they still accept it, but it's worth a try. -
Looks great! Thanks for posting the pictures and info.

You'll only find these skins on the HP site (not at skinit.com). Gotta go through the HP site to get it:

Skinit is a great site to check out along with schtickers.com
Not a bad bang for the buck. -
Both products are really nice. NBR has several reviews I think that Tim and Chaz did for each.

Too expensive for what you get. I have one and it's "Okay", but nothing justifying the $20 dollars I spent.
-
@puppet master:wht does it mean,i m plannin to take 1 from skinit (for inspiron 6400)... it is nice or bad??
-
has anyone tried the 'create your own' options at skinit or schtickers?
The Schtickers one is $10 cheaper and cheaper than some of the regular skins at skinit and I was considering that but wanted to see if anyone had an opinion first -
I created one from a graphic screenshot taken off an in game shot I liked that I found online. I added my toon into the pic and I made sure the resolution dpi and size format etc were ALL what they needed to be then sent it to the folks at Schtickers for my Sager NP 5760.
Personally, I love it and am very happy with the result. Because it is a full sized, full color graphic and is shiny, it does indeed look like a sticker (imo more than a discrete custom paint job) but I knew that would be the case from the start and I am quite satisfied with it.
From a graphics stand point just make sure you know what you are doing. GIGO~ they can NOT take a crappy low resolution compressed file and improve on it. If you follow their specs and their instructions then you should be happy with it. Worst case scenario you can always remove it with little to no real trouble. Ask me again in a year about that though lol ; )
Here is a pic and YES, I put the graphic on so that it faces me when the laptop is closed. It is NOT upside down to me and that is what I wanted
Best,

Thanks, yea I know how to make a good image so I'd probably be making one from scratch.
Does it give any kind of protection or is it literally just a sticker? -
Has anyone tried this site?
http://designerskins.com/Merchant2/...&Product_Code=LT-CUST-TEMP&Category_Code=ltzm
$19.99 for a custom skin -
Does it protect the laptop cover itself? Sure, by covering it with the sticker
Does it offer the laptop itself any other protection? No.
Is the actual sticker graphic protected from harm? Well, I suppose it is moreso than just a normal sticker, (but not by much imo) from the normal wear and tear of laptop life.
Since my laptop is more of a desktop replacement beast it never came to mind to me as I don't expect I'll take it travelling too much.
Pop over to the folks at schtickers.com and send them an email or give a call. They were pretty responsive and helpful to me when I was poking about
Best,

I purchased from Schtickers, they F'd my order but they're fixing it..
About the decal, it is a "sticker" but its thicker, almost like hallmark card thick..which makes it a LOT easier to apply then something like a vinyl decal/sheet
The sheets are quite stiff and don't take to curves very well
The sheet is basically printed on the paper and it has a laminated like top layer, I had to cut down my skin and this made the laminant layer seperate a bit from the paper =\
znivolz, keep in mind that price is only for 12,14,15" laptops, also there is nothing said about shipping costs.
15.4" adds 3.00$ -
Yea good point. Mine is a 15.4" Widescreen :/
-
I would recommend Designerskins.com. I recently purchased a laptop vinyl through them that came to roughly £15 and even though I was purchasing from the UK I received my custome skin within 4 or 5 days. Excellent quality of service.
-
Dell does skinit too. I was surprised by how good the quality was- the spare bits I tried pulling- and it takes a lot of force to pull it out of shape. Regards removing the air bubbles- Ive removed mine completely . The way I did it was as follows:
You can remove the air bubbles froma skinit skin already stuck on- just use a hairdryer and whisk over the skin ( do this with the laptop OFF so it doesnt overheat) and make sure it is enough to soften andonly warm the skin. Then push out the air bubbles with your fingers (or something soft- you dont want to be scratching the surface)- the bubbles come out easily. It also helps the skin to mould exactly to the laptop, making it look less like a sticker. -

Does skinit put the hole in the middle for the logo or is that something you do yourself? They don't have the right generic size for the sager 2090, but one of the HP ones would fit perfectly. I just don't want a hole in the middle of it.
-
By the way, I've noticed that, since having the skinit sticker on my notebook for over a month, most of the little bubbles that I couldn't remove have disappeared. I think these stickers get better looking over time. -
Does anyone have a high res version of the OCC skins that we could use on laptops other than HP?
I'd love one for my M1330 -
I'm working on a design for my HP dv9000, still deciding where to order from. So far, Schtickers sound's like the best for ease of application, but there are some curves on my laptop. What I'd REALLY like is something thick, like a "bubble" case badge, if you have any idea what I'm talking about, but I don't know how well that would hold up. Also, when I do the final design, how do I find out what resolution the image should be (mainly asking for schtick or skinit)?

Hi markfm,
It's been some time since you posted and I hope you read this.
I ordered the exact same skin as yours for my dv9500t. I was expecting it to fit as shown on the site. But, as you can see in the screenshot attached, there are some issues
1) There is no HP logo at the center. When I ordered it, it was shown to be there(even on the final order printout).
2) The skin is not wide enough for my laptop and not long enough to go all the way down(I had specifically ordered it for dv9500t).
Do you think I should try and get a replacement ?Attached Files:

Now that I compare the patterns, it doesn't look like exactly the same skin as yours. But there is only one such skin under the chopper skins section on the skinit site. So, some goof up is surely there.
-
The skin is definitely supposed to be bigger. They must have sent you a generic square one by mistake. Mine is big enough to cover 95% of the cover, but still has some lack of coverage at edges. Here's what my 17" 9000 series looks like.

That's bad.
I had got it shipped to India from the US. So getting a replacement will be a pain. It came here in around 2 weeks. Guess I will have to live with it.:-( -
Well, look on the bright side. You won't have to deal with corners with wrinkles like I do, as the bigger sized-to-fit ones don't fit contours that well. Also, do you really WANT an HP logo in the middle?
-
Yeah, that's a good way to look at it.
I like it. -
Interesting add on for my forthcoming Vostro 1500
....

I thought about ordering one for my dell 1721 laptop i can see all the fingermarks lol
-
Those who have Hp skins, did you cut out the space for the hinges yourself or did it come like that?
