i recently installed a gtx 560m in my alienware m15x, and it seems to work fine until i bench it. stock clocks, but when it gets up to 62*c in furmark, i docks down! i haven't noticed it while gaming, when i play skyrim it sticks to 66*c without issue and no throttling. am i doing something wrong? when i received it i just through it in and went with it, it came out of a sager, idk if the vbios is the problem maybe or? 70.26.29.00.06 (P1065-0013) vbios. idle temp is 36-40*c though it is cold this time of year.

Furmark stresses the card harder than it should be. If it doesn't throttle in games, then I think you're fine.

What was the original card? What is the size of your PSU?

If I recall from when I briefly had an m15x, they did have some issues with throttling when under extremely heavy loads. Part of it I think was that the power supply was a little smaller than it probably should have been. You should be able to still find a guide online about how to use throttlestop to fix the issue. Chances are it's not a hardware issue directly, and can probably be remedied in software. I'm also not sure if later BIOS updates fixed the problem or not, but that could be something to check as well.
