I just ordered the ASUS S96J and I want to paint the top of it since it is so plain but I dont know what kind of paint that would be good to paint on it and wouldn't wear away. I would appricate any advice.

Dunno, but I'd like to see if anyone does; ordered one too^^ though in my case it'd be more about painting a design then painting the entire thing.

Here at infinity we've been painting them solid colors and with full on designs. How much did you pay? I might be able to hook you up with something with a paintjob (solid color or full on artwork) and will be competitve on price, drop me a line. (see my avatar? :)

For instance cassandra's config with paint (anything you want!) can be had for 2500 but with a sxga monitor and custom art!

Also it could be upgraded to a faster CPU bigger/faster HD also for about $2800

If you want to try it yourself krylon paints are pretty good but if you want artwork or even just a quality solid finish consider that we start from scratch before the system is built and the system goes through a long process (around 10 steps) with several layers

Systems ship in only a few weeks from order :)

    no offense to otaku

but actually on this model i want to see actual pictures of the vbi patches that intel wants to sell for $20

they must be some sort of material like say a table mat type thing to fill that indentation.

this is the first of several models for the 3 largest notebook makers (quanta, compal and asus) that are all supposed to look exactly the same.

edit there are upcoming vbi laptops from clevo gigabyte and msi also

I've seen those also sort of a neat cheap fix but nothing beats a custom paintjob, no offense taken.

hi I want to help you clear a few things up.

I dont think youre familiar with this s96j model.

First off, the model in cassandras signature costs 1500 about. do you charge $1000 for a paint job? I dont think so I can get my car painted for less. I think you should make a website advertising your service charges and link it in your signature because I think youre actually turning customers away sometimes lol sorry it just moved me to comment.

this new vbi thing is brand new. the back of the laptop has a blank indentation made to accept a vinyl sticker or something

youve seen them? well I havent because its brand new. no one has posted a picture of this insert.

This is the first model to use this method but about 5 more are coming. You might want to learn about it because its possible you can sell the inserts to people with art, or have an adaptation

Ok I dont think s96j owners are going to pay you to paint their laptop because then it will be painted with a blank indented square on the back. something different has to be done in this case. Im not positive what Ill let you think about it and comment.

I agree with Stamar... when I saw your post I thought... $1,000 paint job for a $1,500 laptop... or a $25 schticker? I'm thinking that the $25 seems a lot more reasonable for the laptop's total cost.
