I recently upgraded my laptop's hard drive, and I bought an external casing for the old HD, to turn it into a portable drive. It works really well so far. The case is aluminum. Im wondering if its a good idea to paint it. It disassembles relatively easily, so the HD would'nt be near paint until it had ample time to dry. However, I'm worried about heat. Do you think a few coats of paint would insulate the aluminum to the point of too much heat for the HD?

if you use paint that it for metal surfaces, you should be fine. Make sure it isnt a heavy acrylic paint that would create a thermal insulation around the HD enclosure.
