Well been doing some reading on how to paint my laptop and I finally made the plundge today. Took the Rim around the LCD which was the easiest thing to take off and try it out. I bought Rust-o-leum plastic paint in orange. Wanted Krylon plastic but Wally World didnt have it in orange.
Well I'll post pictures as soon as I can.
Cant wait to see how it will turn out. Orange where all the Silver was and I'm going to leave the White around the edges.

ok well I just finished up with painting the laptop. Used a Rust-o-leum plastic paint, and a clear. I will in a few days water sand it and buff it out. I have about 4 coats of clear on it. Not exactly the orange I was looking for but I'm happy with it so far.
I painted the touch pad, and it works fine. Did the same amount of coats of paint and clear as I did on the rest of the laptop. This is one part that definitly needs to be water sanded. Little rough feel then use too.
This is my first one I've done and it shows, but I'm happy with it. This laptop see alot of abuse with being handled all the time so being perfect with this one would have been a waste of time. Wife has Vostro 1000 thats all black and is her baby, so that one is next and will be a bit more anal on the work.Attached Files:

Can you do something about the DELL logo, like paint it back in?
I think it would look better that way -
Moral Hazard....you're absolutly right. Need to take the laptop to buddies house and measure the circle and the letters and make a decal. I was thinking Black circle with Chrome letters, since there is enough orange to kill a horse I was thinking something little different.

Not the color I would have picked personally, but it looks like it came out pretty well. I personally would not have painted the media buttons or I would have painted them white to match the outline.

Pretty good - I bet you learned a lot.

Oh man I used to have an E1705, that thing was such a beast for me for a while. I had video card in it overclocked forever, and finally the ram on the video card went bad. But hey if you're looking for parts for yours ever I still have it! Hit me up, everything on it is perfect except for the video ram (which, in turn makes the motherboard useless because the vcard is stuck to the thing).

got the same internal video as yours then. One thing I wish I would have never done when I ordered it.

Yeah the color is little much but the wife and I enjoy the color, and as for the buttons I'm thinking about taking them out and either changing them or remove the paint. I have to take it all apart anyways to water sand everything and buff it out.

I did, and that would be to take my time. I did rush this one a little bit and it's showing. But the nice thing about paint is you can always redo it...I plan on doing the wifes Vostro 1000. She wants to use that Mirage paint from Dupli-color. We are not dependent on hers like we are on mine so I'll be able to take all the time I'll need with hers. Should look really good when I'm done. -

Hey, did you get that PM I sent you rakkiby? Yeah actually I had the 7900gs in it.

Intersting color, i think it would pop nicely if you colored the media buttons and the power button black to match the keyboard.
