So I'm new here, actually just found this forum just now searching for my question. This may have been asked before or at least widely known but I know nothing about paints but I was wondering how to go about removing the gloss from my black notebook. I love the thing to death but it picks up anything on the surface and its looks disgusting. Millions of tiny fingerprints everywhere and I just rather it just be matte or so. I was thinking that I could sand it but I'd probably end up scratching the thing cause I really just don't know what to do. Seeing this place I'll probably do something else cool later but the thing is driving me crazy.

If you want, you could cover it with a matte film of some sort that would both protect it and remove gloss. I don't really see you being able to sand it - that would just scratch the computer. Another option is to take apart the computer and repaint the computer casing (with spraypaint or something).

Yeah you might wanna consider clear stick on films before sanding anything.

something like this would work:

People buy the laptop cuz its glossy and looks pretty. Then they get it and go aw this stinks!
-
dont sand it. it will look aweful. if you want to you could use a matte clear or a film of some sort there is not way to really do it without a re-paint.
-
You could take it completely apart and have the glossy parts sandblasted. Or laser etched.
They have gentle sandblasting processes...like airbrushing vs. normal spray gun in painting... -
Just enjoy it, man. Just got an hp dv4t se and still getting used to the gloss myself, exp the screen. But if you want to destroy a perfectly good computer, sand it! Maybe you can find some clear stickers somewhere like the kind they use on new machines.

Woah I just learned something new, I didn't even know you can do that. Awesome!

Out of curiosity, if you were careful about sanding and used a nice fine grained sandpaper, could you get funky brush effects onto it? Kinda like brushed aluminum but with plastic.
