Hi!
I have a problem with an Samsung Series 7 Ativ Ultrabook:
The glue is coming appart...
I would like to know which kind of glue was used originally or which glue I could use to put the parts back together in a durable fashion.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Superglue/cyanoacrylate glue works for most things. Can be hard to position things right though due to the very fast setting time of most such glues.
I'd use a good quality two component epoxy which also works on most materials but have a longer setting time. That's what I use for most permanent fixes. Just remember to wear protective rubber/plastic gloves as it may cause allergic reactions in the non-hardened state.
No idea what Samsung used. Things coming apart without visible damage on the glued components? Probably not epoxy, and if it is then not applied correctly. But maybe they used some kind of general purpose glue ("snot") in order to enable disassembly? Doesn't matter much anyway.Starlight5 likes this. -
Meanwhile I've found a lot of threads relating to the same porblem, but with the MacBook Pro (2008 model mostly). The seem to have had the exact same issue. Not a fan of Apple, but in those threads it's often been reported that Apple had it repaired even when the warranty had already expired.
Samsung should do the same IMO, because it's clearly a manufacturing / design flaw!
I asked, the refused. :-/
I'll try some epoxy designed (but not exclusively) for metal and I'll upload some pictures and a experience report after the (hopefully) successful repair.
Thanks Megol for your input! -
You could also get "krazy glue" gel, gives you a little bit longer "work time" but still holds like the dickens!

Any update? Did you fix it? I am having the same problem and i wonder what worked not worked for you?

Since my post I reglued the whole Lid with a two components epoxy for metal (24h hardening time).
Examinig a bit further revealed that not online the lower part but also part of the frame and "nuts", where the screws are held, had come of.
For the refitting I sanded the parts that had to be glued and cleaned them of any dirt and grease,
I applied the glue after taping the areas which should stay without adheasive. (I recommend using less glue than I used in the attached pictures).
After putting the pieces back together I moved them under applied pressure towards oneanother just milimeters back and forth to make sure all the bubbles would get out (if there were any).
Finally I clamped the pieces and put them away for about 24h at about 25 °C.
After cleaning of residue and putting it back together my girl friend is proud owner of an almost flawless ATIV 7 Ultrabook since about 6 months now.
Good luck!
