OK, so I own a Sager NP2090 (Compal IFL90), and I have a problem. The glossy black lid on my notebook looked great the day I got it, but after 4 months of use, it's covered in fingerprints and scratches. At first the scratches were barely noticeable, but that's not the case anymore. So, I was thinking about getting a Schticker. Now, I have some questions about it.
1. Do schtickers get worn over time?
2. If I remove it, is it still rather adhesive?
3. Is 1680x1050 too high of a resolution for my image?
Now, I also would like your opinion. I plan on putting flames on the schticker. Yesterday, using the GIMP, I created some nice looking flames, but I'm not sure what color would look best on my specific laptop. What color do you think would look the best (on a dark background) for my notebook?
Red Flames (basically normal flames)
Green Flames
Blue Flames

Any thoughts? -
I have a skinit on my HP dv9500t and it does not quite cover the entire lid, there is a 1/2 inch gap around the edges so it appears to have a black frame around the edge of my lid. So to counter this I'd suggest selecting a skin that is darker around the edges to blend in (or whatever color your lid is) so its not framed like mine. The skinit brand of skins are made by 3M so you can remove them without leaving a residue or damaging the underlying gloss finish. Stickers/skins will get worn over time but they are cheap when you consider what it would take to fix the lid surface. As far as the resolution (1680x1050), sure why not?
Here's what mine looks like (excuse the flash and I resized the image for the forum):

And by the way, nice skin. -
Reby, how difficult was the skin to install? Is the material thick enough that you don't have to worry about trapping any air bubbles while installing it?
I ask because I have a refurbed 1720 on the way, it has all the specs I wanted except for the color, which is alpine white. I had wanted Jet Black but wasn't able to catch one that color with the specs I wanted since they move so fast. (same exact specs as your Sager, Azone)
As far as the color to make your flames, that would be personal, I myself would get blue since that would be more subtle than red. -
Trucker61 - It was pretty easy actually. I took a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to clean the surface and remove any oil/grease. I tried to center the sticker and work from the center out to the edge, but I had to pick up the sticker 2x to get it centered properly (I only lightly put it on so it was easy to pull up and re-position). Once I had it more or less where I wanted I pressed it down firmly and worked out all the air bubbles, again from the center to each edge, and that's about it. I went slowly and took my time but I have zero air bubbles under the skin so it looks very smooth.

Well, it looks like I'm going to go with green flames. I liked the idea of blue flames, but they just weren't giving me the look I was aiming for. I will be messing around with the GIMP a bit more, and if I can get blue flames to look better, I'll probably go for it.
Anyhow, it seems like I'll be going on with schtickers, once I find out why it gives me an error with my 1680x1050 image. Any ideas? -
Thanks for this thread, I never heard of "Schticker's" before, I have been looking at Skinit.com's selection. It seems that Schtickers is a bit cheaper too
.
The suede skins look interesting, I may go that route because I can't make up my mind what picture I would want.
When you have your picture finished how about putting it up for us to see?
Have a great New Years!
