Hey has anyone tried waxing a glossy finish laptop?

I have a bottle of ArmorAll automotive wax here, and I put it on the lid of my laptop. My family thought that I'd gone insane when I applied 4 coats of the stuff, but it's given it quite a bit of shine there. It looks nice, and surprisingly, fingerprints are a tad less noticeable. They also wipe off a bit easier.

Yeah i tried it before, but just like a car you need to re-do it here and then. I noticed that less fingerprints showed up.

Do not use automotive polishes only wax. Some polishes might be too abrasive for a notebooks surface.

My Netbook is glossy, I don't think I would do that...I just use a microfiber cloth, and it does the job it needs to :D

Waxing a laptop? That's a new one! I wouldn't do it myself, may void the warranty. Seems like manufacturers are always looking for an excuse, I'd rather not give them one if I can.

I guess I'm the only one who would sand their glossy laptop down to a matte finish instead of polishing it. I hate glossy laptops.

Hey, that works for you! ;) :D That would be cool to see a glossy notebook sanded to a matte finish!

I like both Glossy and Matte!

On my older PDAs I would apply a coating of wax on the screen, instead of using a screen protector. Now THAT'S crazy !

I've gone one higher. With an old iBook that I had, I used to use car wax and a buffer on the computer. Yes, I know that's crazy, but my laptop was probably the only computer on campus that could create a blinding glare.

I also use an automotive sealant on mine. The sealant has some fillers in it as well which helps hide some very light superficial scratches and makes wiping off finger prints a breeze. Stupid glossy laptops! :D

Yeah I hate glossy finishes too, but the problem is that other than the touchpad, keyboard, and bottom cover, every single part on my laptop is glossy (even the rubber pads on the LCD bezel that keep the laptop from breaking itself)

I don't have the nerve to try sanding the finish off, so I though to myself "hey if you can't beat 'em, might as well join 'em."

I waxed the LCD bezel, palmrests, and the touchpad's buttons today. It looks nice :D

I'm going to wax my mice today (VX revolution and MS intellimouse explorer 2.0)

I might try it on the screen, but I'm afraid that it'll just make the glare get super-worse.

Wax mine religiously. Is nice to just be able to lightly buff off fingerprints with a terry rag...no fuss, no muss...

Wax. Your. Mouse's. Teflon. Feet. The teflon feet+wax makes it glide over anything very easily, and it basically destroys friction and laughs in its face

I think I'm going to begin waxing mine regularly too. I really like the way it looks super glossy.

I think I would keep the waxing to a surfboard. :p

Even if I did..the only parts on my lappy I could wax would be the palm rests, and edge trimming. So, I will stick with my simply awesome microfiber cloth! :D

Here I will have to inject an argument...

For a rubber or matte finish, wax will, in fact, leave a nearly impossible to remove white hazy finish!!!

    Def not recommended...

And waxing the feet of your mouse=slightly OCD... :p Will try that tomorrow, though I usually use the arm of the couch as a mouse pad, and am unsure what benefit i may see...(microfiber couch arm as a mousepad FTL...)

This is a first...a *wax obsession* when it comes to notebooks, and notebook accessories! :D :p

I wouldn't even fathom putting wax on the cover of my Red XPS 1530 :nah:
I can only imagine the mess....

Now I forgot besides wax on a surfboard, of course a car would be even a better thing! :D

And waxing a mouse... :nah: That would make my MS BT 5000..work horribly.

You know what they say...*To each, their own* :D

Is the Meguiars wax like the hard, solid candle or crayon-like wax, or is it a synthetic gel/paste type thing? The ArmorAll I have is a gel type wax.

the yellow wax is a liquid paste type wax but it dries clear, and doesnt leave a oily finish after wiping it off like some of the synthetics do. personally i hate those even on a car they never really wipe off good. imo im a 100% carnauba wax guy myself when it comes to my cars paint. mmmmm the smell of fresh carnauba wax...

oh that's sweet. The ArmorAll that I have leaves that oily crap after using it. I have to wipe it off with a different microfiber cloth.

It's should be available in any automotive department. It works very well on almost anything with a shine and is totally non-abrasive. Use it sparingly and wipe off with a microfiber cloth.

:/ I haven't taken any pics of the laptop without the wax. Besides, I don't think that pictures would do it any justice.
