I own a G50Vt-X1...referb...came with a scratched lid...everything else is brand new..so today I bought from ASUS's estore..one "G60VX-2A LCD COVER ASSY 160" lid,it was direct from asus and goes to a Genuine G60.
...will report back when I get it...
-
Sounds cool! I'd like to see how it turns out.
-
Just got my tracking number...next Friday I will be getting it.
-
actually if u can post some tear-down and pictures as to how u did it, It would be very much appreciate it.
I just got a G51JX model and the lid styling drives me up the wall. I like to see how to dissemble the lid/LCD so I can do a CF vinyl wrap. -
I got a Canon T1i SLR sitting, waiting for the box to arrive.
...Want to know the funny part?
I don't quite know which lid I am getting..lol.
It's either a G51Vx like white lid,a G60Vx Blue/black,or a G60Jx camo...take your pick....
I love all of them though...lol. -
I got this one, not that I can't live with it, but I can certainly live w/o it.
Another thing I like to see is if the front "Gamer's Republic" badge can be yanked off. I can't really tell if its been screwed on the lid or it is glued. -
I have had mine apart, the logo is screwed onto the inside of the main lid and is pushed through the main lid...Why do you dislike the logo?!
My secondary project is to take the old lid apart and give it to the local Vo-tech school and see if they will paint it. -
no i do like the badge, i wanna take it out so that the vinyl doesnt cover it up but yah im sorta scared to take this laptop apart just to wrap a skin on the lid.
How hard is it? -
It is complex, you have to take the front bezel off(six screws),remove the hinge caps, unscrew the lid from the LCD(9 screws),then in my case remove all in lid parts(lights, wifi ant.,camera, etc, about 5 screws, lots of tape)
-
sounds like alot of work, i might have to think twice before i take apart a brand new laptop....
Certainly sounds a lot more complicated then taking apart a sidewinder mouse that's for sure.
Update
Okay, I'm def not cool about taking the thing apart so I did the next best thing. There a some flaws if u look at it in the right angle but hell, its not like I do this for a living.
Before
After!

...wow...that came out nice....
-
It came DOA, had to rip off the vinyl and mail it back to amazon

Well..just on time.
I'll throw it together tonight after my church's good Friday service.Attached Files:

OK..this is good enough for a bump.
I Just threw it together with a little help...
One small problem.......Although the lid fits purringly....no screw holes line up....So we were getting a little suicidal..until I looked to my left...
You see I build Electric Remote control Airplanes,(You will see my little toy in the pics in fact),And yesterday I was just throwing on some canards and a wild tail setup I wanted to try...to mount them I used a Hot glue gun...
I left it out yesterday.
So a hour and .half a Glue stick later...It looks great, and is solid,Not a drop of glue outside it either,Couldn't tell from top down that it's not a factory G60...well until you spot the silver palm rest and LED display.
BTW: Shinobe....Sorry but it seems that the emblem is in fact solidly attached...they use a hot iron to melt the plastic to it...sorry....Attached Files:

Well..it looks like I will be the first to transplant an G60 lid onto a G50.....
