why not just buy the black mac book? if i was gonna pay colorware to colour my gear, i wouldnt be getting them to colour it in colours available from the factory.

not to mention i think the white of my mac book looks great :)

Wait...you can buy a "black" MacBook from the Apple store or do you mean the one from the website the OP linked? That would be sick if you can buy it at the Apple store!

You can buy a black MacBook from the The Apple Store, but not a black MacBook Pro.

Agreed, for $450 you should be getting a full custom job (with some simple graphics, or even some more involved graphics for a little more) not a "select one of our fine colors". Thats worth a couple 100(assuming it is a 'perfect' job.
Might as well throw away money on a voodoo.

I've looked around in the forums and noticed your somewhat of a notebook painting veteran...

Could you point me in the right direction as to painting a macbook pro myself, or possibly a company/person that would do a full body paint for less than the ridiculous price that colorware is charging?

What I want, is for my black Macbook to be completely black, especially the Apple logo. Probably the keyboard keys too. That would be cool. :D

Have you ever had automotive paint work done at a body shop?

Automotive grade paint is very expensive and the processes and prep work needed to apply it well are time consuming. Plus, by the looks of it, they don't paint it intact - they disassemble the notebook, paint the skins, and put it all back together. that's a labor intensive process, particularly on Apple notebooks.

Is $450 unreasonable for that quantity and quality of work? I don't think it is. Would I do it? No.

lashgari, start with the sticky at the top of the forum here. It will give you an idea of the options available. If you find a certain direction you want to go then do a forum search and then a google search.

@l33tcow, that would be awesome, esp if the logo was a black light (UV) :D

    Yes.
There are tons of ways to go about it. My asus was <$200 done by a professional airbrush artist who works on motorcycles. I searched for someone who had some good examples of the kind of work I wanted(I made sure he had the skills). I saved $$$ because it was his first time painting a computer and I did most of the prep work.

$450 is perfectly reasonable for someone who disassembles, takes liability for, and returns a quality painted notebook. I already have a design for my next notebook and anticipate spending around 6 or 7 hundred and it will be worth every penny.

However, as I pointed out above for the price you should be able to get more of a paintjob than just "choose one of these 12 colors". That should be a $50 to $200 option, any more is too much money especially from the retailer where you are buying the norebook.
Look at some of smoothcreations work that cost about $500 and see if this $450 paint job stacks up....I don't think so.

So hear this, I was scamming through the forums and found
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1318136#post1318136

apparently, done by a airbrush artist right in my own town... Looks pretty good, although she does it with automotive paint, and I have to do the disassembly myself.

She gave me a rough estimate of $150, for one coat sheer black, and her website is http://www.customairbrush.com/

Not to mention she is cute, but hey thats besides the point... Any thoughts?

Yep, I linked to that is the resources thread. If thats what you want then go for it but remember you are assuming the liability when you disassemble.

I say go for it :D and let us know how it turns out.
