Hey guys, I'm not sure, but I think this is the right forum for this!
I'm just wondering...
1. For the people who thought they would care about the looks of their notebook before they bought it...
After you got it, are you still happy that you opted for a nicer looking notebook?
Do the looks continue to make you enjoy using it?
2. And those of you that bought a notebook, not caring about how it looks, do you wish you had gone for the sexier one you had your heart set on even though it was more costly?
I'm trying to decide between the ASUS W3J and ASUS Z62J
You can check out pics from those links.. W3J is more expensive, sexier and more powerful but no webcam...
G'head and do the poll!!![]()

Webcame isn't a big deal-I'd get the W3j myself. I have an old ugly dell all black with some gray/silver here and there. Its big and heavy and ugly. Performance wise I was very happy with it and for now I get by with it. I'd like to go boutique next time-my only complaint there is price but you get performance and beauty.
-
I'm getting a mildly sexy and turning it into a regular supermodel.
-
I actually don't mind the looks, but its always nice
With power, looks and size, it pretty much summarized my decision for the V6va -
the dell i6000/9300/e1505/etc. (current inspiron design) isn't ugly persay... but it's hardly the sleek goodness of an asus or perhaps a macbookpro17inchbeast ahem. i'm considering a bigfoot custom etched graphic though

I didn't buy my notebook for looks. I put emphasis more on the internal components (because that is what really matters to the performance-minded). Although, I must say - to me, my notebook looks great, especially with the LCD panel and blue-lit power button:

My last system was very flashy, blue LEDs and the works. My current system is about as dumpy as you can get, and looks straight out of the 90s with the green LEDs, but it's much more professional-looking, and the internal components are what I really care about.

Great thread!, u know this is one thing that is interesting about a notebook.
Does it look good or not?
Well if you take the Z63 series, wow they were good looking portable laptops.
The W3 series was also very good looking.
However the Z62 series reminds me of a traditional toshiba laptop =\.
But the big upside about the Z62 series is that they offer amazing value, and they are equipped with DVI and cheaper, customizeable.
The one thing that I don't like is the audio ports at the front =\.
Personally i would be hooking up my laptop to speakers, and to have audio cables running around my hands is definately not kool.
Besides that, you can technically get rid of the ugliness of a laptop by painting, or using vynals.. or w/e else.
Thanks,
MysticGolem -
I would pay 100 more for the v6j cuz that thing is just sex
-
Mine is ugly, but I don't care. For what a bargain it is, I can't complain (specs in sig, for about $1199). The appeal of my notebook has grown on me ever since I have been using a Toshiba (I guess I prefer a plain black computer to a silver one).
When I buy another computer (maybe 2 years), I will look for something with a little more appeal, but it won't be my top priority.
Oh yeah, I have blue LEDsAttached Files:

Plus... it's "ugliness" can *ahem* deter thieves.. -
go for the sexy... I bought a z63a (w3 chassis) and I personally think the aesthetics are hard to beat. only regret is that I didn't have the bling to put down on a W3V at the time. while it's true that the internals are extremely important to the experience, I think that the aesthetics can't be left out.

here's a little question to add on.
If you have a good looking laptop do mostly girls come to you and ask what is it? or are they guys?
Also if you have a not so great looking laptop, do guys or girls ask what is it?
Hopefully that would sway your thinking LOL.
Thanks,
MysticGolem -
My opinion is that the inside is what matters, and I am a girl!
-
First question is do you need the webcam while your on the go? If not, I would go for the w3j or the v6j, which I think is the sexiest machine out right now.
But then again I am biased. I have a w3v which I love. However, it still was a little too bland for me so I had it some airbrush work done to it. $$$$$$
The question is how much money do you want to spend and do you have anything more important to spend it on. -

Rey do you mind posting some pics of your laptop, i would like to see the airbrush design.
Personaly the looks of a laptop do matter to a certain degree. I don't like how the Acer Ferrari 3000 models looks, with all that red, it looks too flashy and not that welcoming.
The Z63a and W3J are the best looking 14" laptops i've seen, the Z63a has a nice combination of colours and brushed aluminum that makes it look sleek and sexy.
The W3J is some kinda black glossy finish, it is real nice, and gets people attention. It is just sexy!.
THe V6 series is just sleek! nice brushed aluminum touches to make it look good.
The ASUS Z70va is subtle but still business looking, and will catch others attention.
THe new models are not ugly ugly, like some dells, and hp laptops. But the Lid really needs a small touch up to make it more attractive.
I do suggest trying those vynals or get the lid painted with some awsome aribrush colouring or something. Flames? Ice? Car? etc.
Thanks,

I post some new pics of my machine later. I previously posted some that I took right after I put it back together but the quality of the pics sucks. I'll try to take some better ones tonight.

I have white bumpers. What does that tell you?
-
I like Dell's white bumpers... I think they look nice... =X
-
Eh, I bought my E1705 for the sheer power and performance it had for the price - looks are nice, but I went for functionality this time. The white bumpers don't really bother me - they look fine IMO.

Lol, There fine. There are uglier notebooks. Atleast mine isn't Florida Gators Orange like one of my friends. XD
-
Not a fan of the white bumpers. Silver is fine I guess, with blue lighting. Orange painted? If you like orange that'd be great. I like blue and red better myself.

Have you ever seen an old Dodge Charger driving down the road? That's basicly what color it is.

Go for the sexy!
I got Fujitsu N6210 even though I liked the look of N6100 much better because I was very much afraid of the fan problems of the N6100. N6210 looks much better than most laptops, but it just screamed boring to me. After a few days, I wanted to return it, but I really didn't have an alternative because the fan problem sounded horrendous. I didn't know what to do.
I was going to paint it. But, long story short, I ended up getting my laptop inside the N6100 case. Unfortunately, I have the black N6210 keyboard, which looks weird and outta place. But the whole experience made me value it more, so it's like a family member now. I suppose it comes after the cat. (The cat likes to sleep behind laptops so that she gets all the fanned heat on her.)
I feel alright about how it looks, but I'd definitely spend a few hundred more if it could look normal - like, no strange black keyboard and all. If I could buy this laptop pre-painted for a few hundred more, I'd do it. Then again, I make a lot more money than I actually spend, so it just goes into loans/savings, so I won't feel it if I spend a few hundred here or there, I'll only feel it much much later, and later doesn't count.
Oh, and I haven't had many people see my laptop since I don't like to hang out with it in Starbucks or whatever unless I have a very specific reason, but the part that attracted the most attention is the screen, not the case. Oh the beautiful beautiful screen... Once you go Fujitsu, you don't go back

I too don't really find the white bumpers on my I9300 that hideous, they certainly fit in with the look. Plus I don't much care...the Go6800, P-M 750, and 2GB of RAM make me quickly forget any cosmetic imperfections.

I got a Toshiba M70(looks like the M60, my icon, except has a 15" screen, and mine has a peacock blue cover, instead of the copper cover)
I think its pretty nice looking. Futureshop only sold it in peacock blue though. I would have preferd the copper colour. Other then the cover colour though, it looks great.
I esp like the front of the laptop.Attached Files:

at the time that the inspiron was released, around 6-8 years ago, I bought my laptop for performance, not looks, although it's now terribly outdadted and ugly as hell.
-
Like anything that is not total black on the interior. Grey and silver on my presario is fine.
-
this thread is useless cuz there's no pix!
-
I got this a year ago, and I got kind of bored of it
-
I dont think that the webcam is that big of a deal. If I were you I would go with the w3j then just buy a webcam later. besides I heard that the quality on those webcams isn't that good anyway
-
Looks are definitely important
although what is beautiful and sexy for one, might be snobish and flashy for someone else
Nowadays there is such an abundance of notebooks to choose from, that it really isn't difficult to find the near perfect combination of looks and quality for almost any budget. -
As someone with two VAIO's, saying that I do not care about looks would be a lie. I find that most of the time looks cost only 200 or so more, but in the end your total expirience is most definatelly worth the premium.

Asus V6Va
Sleek, sharp and sexy... just like me -
are you the real jack bauer? Can I get your autograph? Have you ever met Keifer Sutherland? You two look alot alike.

Sorry to post this in your post, i just want some opinions.
What do you guy think about the A8jm, is it plain, ugly or sexyy.
Thanks -
i have a vaio SZ18... haven't regretted it for a single second

My dell 1705 notebook is ok. It's silver with white trim. I don't think it's that great. I'd like it all-silver or like changeable plates on the trim. I think it's kinda drab. But I didn't really care what it looked like so long as it worked.
-
I'm trying to decide between the borrrrrinnnngggg black Lenovo N100 and the very sexy Sager NP6630. But the looks aren't really a factor in my decision (or indecision).
-
i'm liking the white edges on this one very much. the blue lights on the panel are cool too, and match the light on my cooling pad. naysayers must be picky or sumtin.
-
Okay I did it, I bought a sexy (W3V!) and boy am I happy with it!!
PS: Didn't go for the A8j because of what I saw in pictures, but some say it looks decent... W3V owns it though!!!
