One of my friends just gave me her old laptop and the hinges or whatever you'd call them that connect the lcd to the laptop are cracked. I was thinking about just using superglue, but the part that moves on the left side allowing it to open and close won't move and I have no idea why. I'm not familiar with laptop hardware at all so I have no idea if I should try to take it apart or even how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What model is it? I am guessing a old Dell Latitude?

If so the best thing to do is order a lid from Dell and get out a small phillips screwdriver. Best to get into the machine before you order. You may have a busted hinge or brace.

Superglue most likely will not help.

What type of laptop is this?

A common old design was to attach the hinge to the plastic case, and then the LCD to the case. After a while, the case cracked and people were :(

New design is the hinge is a long bar that attaches to the entire side of the LCD, with the case attached to the hinge. Much stronger and people are :)

sorry for the late reply. its an old compaq presario and it appears to be the old design you described. looks like theres 1 hinge on each side. cant really afford much atm so a cheap solution would be nice. also looks dont matter to me and i just want to be able to open it without worrying about the lcd getting broken or the case falling apart.
