:( That's terrible Mystery. I know you won't make that mistake again. I've done it and about the only thing I can suggest is getting the 'wipes' for monitors and trying them. Not only are they safe but have a little bit of polish that may help remove that 'film' look you must have now. Hopefully it'll polish away the Windex residue.
    Best of luck~

yikes...that is the worst idea for an lcd screen, once i did it to my cell phone, there was a permanent fog underneath the screen.

I've used windex for years on my screens. The reason, nothing else leaves such a nice streak free shine. Water leaves a residue, and most other cleaners leave streaks after it dries. I've never EVER had an issue with windex, and all my screens have always been in perfect condition.

A name brand paper towel, + windex, then wipe down the screen, never once has any of my electronics or screens been scratched, no surface scratches or anything. I think some people are either just dumb, messed it up and blaming it on the paper towel/windex, or have OCD. Also, what moron sprays conductive liquid all over non-waterproof electronics? Not trying to offend anyone, but cmon!

    I second that!

Windex/paper tower is the best for cleaning screens. Been doing it for years without problems. Who the heck's scratched a screen with paper towel anyways.

Water and a microfiber cloth. Just wet the cloth slightly with water and wipe screen then take a dry one and wipe dry.

Paper towels scratches. If you look at eye glass and lcd screen cleaner you will see it is mostly water.

I bought a canister of Nice 'n Clean brand Electronic Cleaning Wipes for my screen....it explicitly states its good for laptops and monitors...anti-static/alcohol free...for all electronic equipment. After using one on my screen...it def. left ugly streaks....I'm still searching for the perfect streak free solution...prob try microfiber and a dab of moisture (water) next...

You guys are absolutely correct about windex and paper towel damaging your LCD or Plasma screens. I am/was one of those morons who tried cleaning his 46" plasma with windex and paper towel (yes I sprayed it right on the screen) and it proceeded to smear all over the screen. There seems to be a chemical reaction with the film that they treat the screen with. That is not a big deal, it can be removed with some lens cleaner and water mix, as someone had mentioned on this thread. The major issue is paper towel. I put two very minor scratches on the screen surface, which are not visible when watching TV. Fortunately I was only a moron once. Repeated cleanings with paper towel would surely leave many scratches.

AAK! I almost hate to post here--but I have to know if there is any hope at all. The worst part about this whole thing is that I KNOW BETTER. I have a beautiful/wonderful sony vaio t350p. The screen was SO dirty I did it. I took out the windex. sigh

    light spray and microfiber cloth.

it almost looks like liquid seeped into the bottom and there is a very bright patch on the bottom and then a spreading/seeping puddle that seems to move toward the middle of the screen.

I have to know--is there any hope that this will dry out?

    I'm so sad. I hope I don't get called a buffoon--although that's what I feel like right now.

yeah, you are screwed, you might be able to remove the shiny stuff to revel unaffected matte but i have no experience with this... i think everyone needs to learn from making a mistake. i cracked my screen once, so everyone kicks themselves in the nuts once and a while

Why not just spray the entire screen with windex thus making the whole screen "very bright". It's your only hope otherthan replacing the screen.
