Just announced a HP Compaq with ability to accept 2 - 2048MB SODIMMs. More details here.

Long ago we knew that the 945 chipset would support 4GB RAM, here's the first box to take advantage of the 945. Still suspect we'll have the WinXP 3+GB limit so this will likely need Vista to use all 4GB. Somehow I don't expect 2GB SODIMM's to come cheap.

Yes I have applications that would love to see 4GB available, namely PTGui. Hot Damm!!! :D

what good would it do? you still have to use 32 bit cpu and 32 bit OS, which means you can not actually adress more than 2 gigs of ram.

Toshiba was actually first with notebooks to support 4GB, a few Tecra models came out several weeks ago.

    Windows can only see 2.8GB.

Yeah, I don't expect 2GB DIMMs to be cheap.

    Actually, Clevo was the first, they had the D900T with 4 x DIMMs, up to 4GB (4 x 1GB) of DDR2-533. ;)

32 bit computers can adress 4 GB max, just check out any old 32 bit mobo and you'll see. It's purely a OS limitation if XP can't handle it, I assume Vista will change that, even the 32 bit versions.

Any of the linux distro's will happily use 4GB -- if you MUST run XP set it up in a 1.5-2GB VMWare (Free) Player Virtual Image -- there ARE other OS's besides those that come from Redmond....
