It's a shame they downgraded the webcam back to 0.3MP from 1.3MP.

    The 1018P has USB 3.0, not the other . . .

Then why is the 1018P cheaper than the 1016P? And isn't 400-500$ a bit much for this type of netbook? Is the USB 3.0 really worth that much?

Chaz: I see. When I read the specs, i misread the 1016P's BT 3.0 as USB 3.0 upon quick glance. But you are right, it doesn't have it!

According to the engadget site, the 1016p is capable of 3G it seems.

both are some of the best looking netbooks out there, next to that LG xnote

That's about the going price for the higher end netbooks.

Yes however the specs seems to be on par with any netbook cept for the bluetooth and USB 3.0

Does that justify an 120 - 200$ difference?

Why are the single-core N455 netbooks getting USB 3.0 first instead of the dual-core N550 models?

Yes, it's justified by simple marketing. As you go higher end, the differences in performance grows far slower than the cost. Whether that is acceptable for you is inconsequential as there are always customers who will pay for having the latest and greatest.

The 1016P has better specs than the 1018P.

    1016P:
    Windows 7 Pro, 2GB RAM, 320GB 5400RPM drive

    1018P:
    Windows 7 Starter, 1GB RAM, 250GB 5400RPM drive

The 1016P is seems to be a business-oriented netbook. I believe the 1016P also has a larger battery -- it weighs about 0.4 lb more and ASUS says 10.5 hours of life for the 1016P and 10 for the 1018P.

The specs noted in the post above yours seem to explain the price difference well enough.

I think the main confusion is why the less costly 1018p has USB 3.0 while the more expensive 1016p does not. Specs wise the 1016p is better in every aspect, except it doesn't have USB 3.0. Strange indeed, but could well be because the 1016p is being marketed towards business types and the product managers deemed USB 3.0 unimportant for that crowd. Or maybe it's because Asus product management is a little screwed up and the left hand isn't talking to the right, only those on the inside can tell you the real reason!

Doesn't make a lot of sense that the 1016/1018P are stuck with single-core atoms when they are supposed to be the "premium" product
