That is a pretty nice package, specially if build quality is better than some of their previous models, and the screen is better than the average with good viewing angles. The only real unknown here is the battery life. I also, do think they could lower the price by $150 or at least give us a model with a slot loading optical drive(yes I still use one).

ExcaliberPC has it up for pre-order:

Looks like they are claiming a nine-hour battery life. With Optimus it should be rather power efficient using just Intel HD graphics; the i5 is also good on battery life. So, probably between 7-9 hours depending on usage. -
Wait, another 310m laptop from Asus? Are they clearing their warehouse of these soon to be worthless GPUs by slapping them on every new laptop they can think of?
-
I'm pretty out of the loop, but these seem like pretty underwhelming specs for a new (2011) notebook, even for thin-and-lights?

I see the max battery life is 8h and 49 min in Battery Eater Readers test according to a romanian website. Check out here the review and lots of pics with both black and silver models.

Here is what I find interesting:
I know ULV processors did not become as popular as anticipated, but is it to the point where OEM's need to advertise standard voltage? Has voltage, in relation to performance, perceptions permeated enough of their customer base to point it out?
Anyone know what the battery savings are for a ULV vs non ULV proc? Would need to be of the same family of course to mean anything. FWIW, I am always impressed by the performance of my "measly" Intel SU7300 @ stock speeds in my Asus UL30VT.
EDIT: Maybe they are touting the standard voltage since this is in a thin-and-light? Traditionally the domain of ULV procs? -
You're right, those specs do suck. Even the Sandy Bridge integrated GPUs beat the 310m by 1000 points in 3DMark 2006.

Saying the specs suck is a little harsh.
Its not a gaming laptop but an entry level thin and lite laptop, check out this review:

Seems pretty solid to me, only needs a lighted keyboard. -
Probably. One of the great things about Sandy Bridge is that it will finally kill stuff like the 310M once and for all so manufacturers who use Optimus will be forced to do something worthwhile with it rather than using it as a dumping ground for GPUs barely more powerful than the integrated graphics they are paired with.
Come to think of it, if this is coming in "late December", it's only a week or two before both Sandy Bridge and Bobcat. That $1000 price is not going to last very long... -
At least they fixed the touchpad buttons. Hopefully it's not an ALPS
-
Hopefully it's not that ELAN junk either!!

Looks like dual core Sandybridge units won't be anounced until February so I guess Asus is dumping its 310Ms.
I would not expect to realistically see dual core refreshes until Q2.
