ASUS recently launched a website dedicated to the new Eee PC 1008HA Seashell netbook. While the site generally leans towards the viral marketing side of things, it is somewhat comical seeing the new netbook used in various situations. Need something to cut yourself out of a chair while tied up? The sharp edges of the Seashell are there for you! Need to slice carrots? The thin edges of the Seashell can handle any task!
<object width='425' height='344' classid='clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000' codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/a89oGZUP35I&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" /><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a89oGZUP35I&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='425' height='344'></embed> </object>
The site also offers links to different vendors that are currently ordering preorders of the 1008HA, which lets you save $20 off the retail price. I am not really sure what to think after seeing these videos, but it is definitely showing off the sleek design of the new netbook from ASUS. Check out EeePCSeashell.com for more information and to see some very interesting short clips of the new 1008HA in action.

The HD video is in such high quality that the 1008HA will not be able to play it without stuttering
Beautiful laptop though. -
These are all pretty funny but...is it really desirable to be so sharp so as to be able to shave with it or cut rope with it?
I mean...they're getting the word out, but who wants a (dangerously) sharp-edged notebook
-
Well now, thats going to be a hazardous laptop.

In one video they are actually using it as a frisbee

I don't think it's really sharp. It's more of a joke, pointing at how how thin it is. -
I'm really digging the design, however there are a few minor quirks with the 1008HA... ie non-user replaceable battery, harder access to RAM/HDD, non-Chiclet style keyboard.
The videos are pretty funny though

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The 1005 with a removable battery, but is also a little thicker. -
Yes, i've heard, but it won't be released anytime soon. The 1008 is already available for pre-orders at select online retailers and should be at Asus resellers in a week or so. Also, I'd hate to sacrifice thickness for convenience
-
Are you sure? Asus usually releases 2 new models every week...
Here in Europe 1005HA scheduled for week 25. -
Yup, that's what I heard from Asus (US). It might be a bit different in Europe, but from what I've been told, the 1000He will still be the main model, and although they will release the 1008HA soon, they've learn from their mistake not to release too many SKUs on Eee PC at any given time.
-
so in what day will the 1005HA release?
Asus 1008HA has been released and ready to be shipped to customers from merchants as far as i know right now. -
