I just found this press release on ATIs web site. It looks like Nvidia may have some competition for their MXM tech. No word as yet if the two techs will be compatable.
    http://www.ati.com/companyinfo/press/2004/4755.html

    Some quotes from the article
"MOBILITY™ RADEON™ X600 and AXIOM™ usher in a new era of ATI mobile graphics leadership for PCI Express"

"ATI’s mobile PCI Express solutions will be employed by more than sixteen of the industry’s leading OEM and ODM designers including, Acer, Arima, ASUS, Clevo, ECS, eMachines, FIC, Gateway, HP, Inventec, LG, Mitac, Samsung, Quanta, Uniwill and Wistron. The launch of MOBILITY RADEON X600 and AXIOM will take place on June 3rd at a gala event in Taipei, Taiwan"

excellent find underpantman, did I ever tell you how happy it makes me to have an Australian news correspondent on the site? i didn't think so, well i am [ :)]

oh, and i'm sure the ATI PCI Express graphics card solution is completely incompatible with NVidia's. I mean, would you expect it any other way?

    Thanks abaxter,
Glad to be a correspondent !
To add to this tid bit, anandtech has a preview of the new ATI tech
    http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2066&p=5

According to their report it looks like the two will be compatable, I hope that this is correct:

"Both the AXIOM module and the MXM module can be used with either NVIDIA or ATI GPUs, but ATI is also pushing the idea that AXIOM can be used for different types of PCI Express devices in notebooks"
