Well, the Z's lid is made of carbon fiber so that is one reason for its durability and thinness and high price.
But if you break the Acer, it doesn't hurt too much to get a replacement because of its low price.![]()

Fudzilla is reporting the Acer 1410 speced with a dual core SU2300 and going for €449 in Europe.
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15139/1/
No links to any sites offering it for sale though.
Also reported is a lower cost version with the 1.3Ghz Celeron 743. -
SU2300? I thought it was going to be the SU4100? This is getting pretty confusing.
SU3500, SU4100, 1810T/Tz 1410T/Tz. and now an SU2300? -
Since it's not confined to an Atom why not offer multiple CPU options like most other notebooks do.
Or it could also just be a regional thing. Different CPUs for different parts of the world. For example, I haven't seen any news about Intel releasing an SU4100 CPU in the US (and there's no listing for that CPU on Intel.com) but it was announced a couple of weeks ago that Intel is launching an SU2300 and Celeron 743 here in September.
So wouldn't be surprised if all we're offered over here in the way of dual-cores is the SU2300 version of the 1410. -
I've not seen any shop listing 1810 with SU2300, several shops are listing 1810 with SU4100.
Seems like SU2300 is enough power for me though. -
I read in a forum (don't remember which one) that the 1410t has a matte screen. I'm suspicious, and haven't been able to track it down. Anyone know? Thanks
-
Nope, its glossy.
I dunno though, for single-threaded applications, I think I'd rather have the SU3500's clock speed than the second core of the SU2300. Plus, half the power consumption.... -
Well isnt there another dual core option coming out with it later? Plus I would thing even the low end dual core can do HD flash and most people will be doing at least two task at once so it still might be a little better at multitasking than the SU3500?
You know its odd that LG could stuff a GeForce 8400M GS with a C2D cpu in a device 1in smaller than the Acer a few years back. -
The Pentium Dual Core SU4100. I'm not sure what Acer is doing. Between the 1410, 1810T, 1810TZ and having 5 different processors in each one....I don't even want to know. They should simplify their lives and just have a single core (SU3500) 1810T, a dual core (SU9300) 1810T, and a Pentium ULV 1810TZ, just like the other Timeline notebooks.
It's definitely better with multithreaded stuff, yeah. Better, yes. Worth waiting, the extra money, the lower battery life, and the higher temps? I'm less sure. In a notebook this small and cheap, I'm pretty sure I can deal with PenM performance. Just not netbook performance. -
Well I dunno after using the TT for months I dont think I can go back to a single core cpu again. Its going to be interesting when more Dual Core atoms comes out, to see how they compare to Core 2 Solo devices and heck even the low end Pentium Dual Core CPU the SU2300.
-
Tell me about it. I've been on 2GHz Core 2 Duo's for the last 2+ years. It's going to be an adjustment, but not nearly as much as netbook devices. The only thing the C2Solo can't do is HD YouTube, which isn't that important, but once Adobe gets that Flash GPU-acceleration update out at the end of the year, it'll do that too. So I think I'll manage.
-
Yeah, I like atom at first but then the more I used it the more the novelty grew thin on me. Hence I got luck and found a good deal on a TT.

About the confusion with the 1410 and 1810t modells:
In europe both modells seem to be on the market and to me it sound like the 1410-series will be the budget-version of the 1810t (in other markets the naming might be different):
1410 : Celeron 743 or SU2300 Pentium DualCore (2*1.2 GHz, 1MB Cache)
1810t/tz : Core 2 Duo / Solo (SU4100/SU3500) (x*1.4 GHz, 3 MB Cache)
I highly doubt that the SU2300, crippled by 1MB of cache, will be able to compete with the SU3500. Hence the 1410 (Celeron 743/SU2300: 399/449) is aiming in the direction of the standart-netbooks and the 1810t (SU3500/SU4100: 499 / 549??) at the more demanding netbook-users
I think its a quite easy way for acer to cover a big part of the netbook-market with 4 modells consisting of the same basis, as all modells seem to have similar a interior (excluding CPU,RAM and HDD).

An important difference between 1410 and 1810 is the battery. 1410 has 4400mAh, 1810 has 5600mAh.
-
So scratch that bit about the SU4100 in the 1410 maybe being only a regional thing. -
Perhaps future models with dual-core processors will have the 5600mAh battery in the U.S. -
I don't think there will be 1410 models with 5600 mAh, but who knows.
I expect batteries from 1410 and 1810 can be exchanged. -
Do you know if there is a size difference between the two batteries, I know the smaller one sits flush with the case, does the larger capacity one stick out?
-
The 5600 sits flush too.
-
Is there a rough release date for the 'TZ' dual-core model, either in the U.S or elsewhere? By December, do you think we will see new models with new processors as I hear there are new CULV processors coming out this fall. Will the chipset/graphics be the same as well?
-
Crap. I broke down and bought one.
-
-
can anyone tell me if the 1410 at $449 worth the extra 50 -100 over typical netbook prices. Is the CPU and graphic processor faster ? is the sound okay for watching video or listening to music. how is the battery life. I know it says 6 hours but what is it realistically. I need to order a netbook by the end of this weekend.
-
this is the best netbook for the price right now...
you can play HD videos and get really good battery live (no atom based battery live but still good for normal usage)
(and belive me...its hard to say this since i just got a 11z) -
-GPU is much faster
-HDMI
-supports 4GB
-1366*768 resolution
-Vista Home Premium + Windows 7 upgrade
So yeah it's worth it
Battery life is 6 hours for real, with dimmed screen and wifi on, surfing the web w/o flash. -
@ Rahul - can't get enough of them TZ's, can you? -
-
I have yet to get my 1410, but...netbooks make the old Pentium M platform seem blazingly fast in comparison, so I think you may be overestimating the Atom's competitiveness. I'm guessing the CULV platform with the Core 2 Solo is at least on par with a midrange Sonoma-based notebook, if not significantly better, so it should be a fair ways faster.
(This is just comparing my old VAIO FJ (1.86GHz Pen M 750) to the four netbooks I've owned (Aspire One 110, HP Mini 1000, MSI Wind, Toshiba NB205), but again, I have yet to receive my 1410, so I'm just speculating.) -
You're probably right though. I have a friend who has an NB-205, which I think is a zippy little machine, but I haven't spent too much time with it. Was pretty much dead-set on buying the 205, till I read about the 1410. Pretty much a no-brainer that I choose the 1410. Nonetheless, I'm wondering how much real-world difference there is between the two. -
That's because Adobe is a bunch of pillocks who don't know how to optimize software in the slightest.
I returned my NB205, it felt slooooow. A lot slower than I remember the Mini 1000 being, possibly because Toshiba's software package is a resource hog like no other. I'd go with the Asus EEE 1005 or 1008 for that reason alone. However, the 1410 debuted and I knew what I was buying on the spot. But like, in everyday tasks - the NB205 feels dead slow just opening Firefox and browsing the web and such; I'm not sure why the system was lagging so much. Comparatively, the Pentium M is a lot, lot better, so I figure that the CULV platform should be as well. -
As far as I know the only one is Lady Gaga Pokerface 720p. But that clip causes 80% CPU spikes on a 2.4GHz P8600. -
Solid 60% CPU load most of the way with that vid, occasional spikes to 75-80%. This is on a T7300 (2GHz) processor. Pretty intense....

Are you using Ebay for Bing cashback? I can't seem to find any other retailers that are currently offering cashback... -
Oh, uhh, the double cashback deal might have ended. However, I got it with 12% Bing cashback from J&R Electronics (JR.com), for a total of $396 to my door.

So people... I'm between this Acer and the Gateway 11.6'
looks like that this Acer has a better CPU however the Gateway has a better GPU, so...
Some opinions plz. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Yeah the 4500HD from what I remember seeing on the site was a little better in games and most def in HD content.
-
Yes Intel 4500 is better. Install 4GB dual channel for an additional 30% boost.

1810tz
in china $4200
in hong kong $5000
when can we order it......!!! -
Phil can you tell me if the keyboard being used on the 1810TZ and 1810 is similar to the one used on the acer aspire one (11.6 with the atom processor) because from pictures it looked quite similar. I Just couldnt seem to get used to the flat feel and conjestedness of the keyboard on the acer aspire one. I stayed in the store for over an hour getting to grips with it, they say it is a full keyboard but when i kept trying to type fast on it i kept pressing the wrong key, does it take time to get used to typing on a keyboard like that or is it just designed badly for people who type quick?
-
I'm not entirely sure if they're the same. They are very much alike.
But you just need to get used to it. After a week you'll be fine. -
-
-
I think by 4500, I think he is referring to 4500HD, or whatever's in the 1410/1810. -
This is for all 4500's. -
How can you tell if your ram is in dual channel config then? I like the sound of a 30% increase.
-
Is that synchronous dual channel over single channel? How about asynchronous dual channel?
-
Some benchmarks of single vs dual channel on 4500MHD(+su3500):
(notice that the dual channel config has faster RAM, so when taking the same RAM like in single channel, results would be slightly lower)

I notice in the pictures of the 1410 that it looks like brushed metal. I just ordered one in Black and they all seemed to have a shiny gloss to them. Is this the European version? Also, I just realized that the battery on this computer is 4400 vs. 5200 or 5900. I'm no techy, but after my research, that seems to be a low power battery. Why? Thanks.
