Thanks for the review Jerry, it's disappointing to hear about the poor keyboard, I don't like the idea of a keyboard you have to try hard to "get used to" or simply look at to type at your normal WPM speed. But for chat and email, you could get by I'm sure. Compared to the A150 it sounds like Acer at the very best moved sideways in terms of progress. The price will at least give some people a reason to overlook the shortcomings stated here.

My friend has this laptop and she let me try it for a bit. It's ok but I definitely don't like the keyboard. It's cramped for the size compared to the HP 10 inch netbooks. Touchpad is super tiny too. It looks good though.
-
I could learn to live with the keyboard on this; it's the touchpad that would drive me batty. It's so tiny.

i snagged one of these at Walmart ($298), and have been really happy with it. Had the first EEE that came out, and have been significantly happier with this one over that. Not sure how it compares to the newer EEE's, but so far no problems, and the size fits in my work bag perfectly, so it's always with me in the truck. No build issues or problems. Would highly recommend.
Using it now in fact, and actually prefered this keyboard over some others I tried, so guess it's a love/hate thing. The bigger flat keyboards (Dell) that are totally flat mess me up more than this one being a bit smaller. My fingers feel the indention of the keys better.
Not to mention, have had a ball going through my old games (mid to late 90's) and having another go at them! -
I can touch type no problem with the original 8.9" Aspire. Keyboard is fine.
-
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Well said....
I liked the 8.9 Acer Aspire One ... although I must admit I like my chicklet style 1000HA Eee PC much more. The thing that gets me is the poor battery life. Sad.... -

A large part of that "sideways progress" is due to Microsoft's specific hardware requirements for qualifying for a cheap Windows XP license. If you break the rules that Microsoft has set in place then Microsoft reserves the right to stop selling your company any Windows XP licenses.
Since Windows XP is the only "real" option (since most consumers still aren't happy with Linux and Vista is a resource hog) the netbook manufacturers have to play nice with Microsoft. Windows 7 "might" be an option at the end of this year, but only if Microsoft offers the OEMs a cheap version to put on netbooks.
Microsoft and Windows XP are two of the biggest reasons netbook development is so stagnant right now. Paper thin profit margins are also to blame, but I'm sure we'd see more netbooks with impressive specs if Microsoft didn't limit the type of hardware that can run Windows XP with a new license/key. -
I have the original 8.9 inch 150 and can attest that the KB is horrid. Small, flex in the middle portion, little key spacing, and my [8,*] gets jammed. Although, i got it for dirt cheap and im using it as a music server, so, it doesnt bother me too much.

I have the same keyboard on my D150 and I had no problems switching back and fourth between the two. the only problem I had was lack of home and end keys.
-
I would not buy this crap. You get what you paid for. My wife has an acer and it s screen broken not long after 1 year.
I suggest that people stay away from it -
lol, that's just your experience
I have the Acer Aspire One 8.9" (ZG5) for almost a year, nothing is wrong with it.
I believe that the keyboard on the D250 is similar or actually same as the d150 and ZG5 right
? the keyboard was one of the nicest when most netbooks was only 9" lol.

The original Acer Aspire One 150 certainly had a better keyboard than some of the first netbooks on the market--such as the original ASUS Eee PC 4G (701) and Everex Cloudbook--and indeed it is still pretty good compared to netbooks with 8.9 inch screens. The problem is that once you move up to a 10-inch form factor you have room for a larger keyboard ... and most other netbook manufacturers have started using larger keyboards.
Compared to the keyboards on the HP Mini family of netbooks or the newest ASUS Eee PCs the Aspire One keyboard feels cramped. -
What a horrible and "generic" review. The reviewer did not even mention fan NOISE that Acer netbooks are well known for.
-
I'm Pretty sure if there was fan noise it would be mentioned. And how in the world can you call the review terrible? Its in the same format as EVERY OTHER REVIEW on this site. And while you may not like the way we do reviews, the majority do, and that's who we cater to.
Oh, and an FYI: The fan wasn't mentioned because its pretty much silent during normal operation.
Weeellll, after looking at your post history, do you ever say ANYTHING positive about, well, anything? -
what "FAN" Noise? my Acer Aspire One can't really notice the fan running *cough*
I got a question.. does this have 2 Mini PCI-e slot or only 1? -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
I want to say two unless the WiFi card is integrated with the motherboard. There is an access panel on the bottom with an open and free mini-PCIe slot for WWAN or other goodies. -
HA! HA! ya right. Acer is well known for having VERY noisy and annoying fans in thier netbooks.
-
It's true that some Acer Ones have noisy fans. But I've heard it's quite easy to tweak.
I had an Acer One 751, many people think it's fanless because it is so quiet. -
yup.. acer aspire one 751 is the quietest fan i've had for netbooks
the acer aspire one AOA150 (ZG5) was noisy though.. but can easily be controlled by programs.
-
Thanks for the review. I really found the post to be very informative.
Pardon me am new to the forum and am liking it already.
