Any idea where it's available right now? I'd like to check it out.
-
There's one on Amazon.
-
Thanks for the link.
I finally fished one off of Amazon. Amazon.com: Acer Aspire One AO522-BZ824 10.1-Inch HD Netbook (Olive Green): Computer & Accessories Going for $330 (full MSRP), but of course not available as yet. -
Sorry if it took you awhile to type in "Acer Aspire One 522" into the Amazon searchbar....guess I should have never said anything in the first place.
-
No, thank you I appreciate it, just had to sift through a bunch of results to finally find it. Just thought you would have posted a link as well.
Back on topic, it's currently unavailable, it doesn't even list a release date unfortunately. Hopefully soon, as I'd be very interested in looking at this notebook.
-
It now shows up as available on Amazon, no longer pre-order. I just put it in the cart and said with 2-day shipping it'd get here on January 31, so I'm guessing they expect it this week and would be able to start shipping on Friday. So you might assume it'd show up on store shelves end of this week beginning of next.

Best Buy canada has it with teh c-50:

Wow ... you think 1gb of RAM will really be able to cut it? (Going from the link on the OP and not the amazon.com offering.)
I guess that is one way to shave the costs a bit....
Still, as of now the more expensive HP dm1z looks like a much nicer machine. It is nice to see more AMD fusion machines becoming available though.
-
Is the c-50 better or worse?
-
Than what?
-
sorry, I just assumed there was a different version because you said in canada we got the c-50

Wondering when or if this platform will find it's way into the Toshiba NB305...
-
Cut it for what? Netbooks have been coming with 1GB of RAM for years now, it shouldn't really come as a surprise anymore lol
Sure it's not 100% smooth, but it does the job considering I've seen machines with 512mb of RAM run Windows 7.
There's the ND550D with an APU, but it's apparently not coming to the US according to Engadget.

Toshiba also at best buy:
Toshiba 10.1" Netbook featuring AMD C-30 Processor (NB555D-018) - Brown : Netbooks - Best Buy Canada
Although i think the c-30 is a less desireable CPU. -
Too bad MS couldn't let up on netbook pricing and allow W7 premium on this. By the time one upgrades the ram and OS, your approaching the price of a HP DM1. I don't see that saving a half a pound is worth settling for 1 gig of ram, a slower HD, and W7 starter and a smaller screen. This machine is probably only a value if one does not upgrade it. Once you start putting money into the OS and Ram, your better off going with one of the 11.6 fusion models. Sad to see the stupid ram/OS crippling restrictions march on because the C50 has the power and graphics to run the full version of windows and 1 gig is just plain dumb.
-
Might be worth a look for those who want a cheap Linux box. Even then, I would put in an extra gig.
-
I've come to know Toshiba as rather conservative with their US offerings lately, but THAT decision is just plain stupid. The NB305 is in need of a refresh this year, and an N550 from Intel won't cut it!

Very true, very true. The few netbooks I worked with that came with sincgle core atom cpu's and 1gb of Ram made browsing the net very difficult. Upgrading to 2gb made it somewhat better. Other folks (possibly countable on on one hand, to be honest) also expressed the same opinions. So that is mostly what I am going from.
If the sales are any indication though plenty of folks seem to be fine with 1gb of Ram.
Hmm ... maybe the cpu and gpu combo work so well that the 1gb of Ram would be workable? If I can find a machine with this chipset on the floor of a store maybe I will give it a try and see how it works.
Ah well....
I agree.
