The Aspire S7 wasn't the only Haswell Core Ultrabook Acer unveiled at Computex, as the Acer Aspire S3 was also announced. At a glance its hard to discern much difference between the S7 and the S3, but the spec sheet reveals some significant differences.

Dedicated graphics makes this better than the S7 in my opinion. It will be interesting to see how taxing it will be on the battery though.

I think that Acer is following Samsung's model here. For example, both the Series 9 and the Aspire S7 are top-end ultrabooks. Both of those are considered the company's flagship models yet both companies have more powerful models in their lineup, albeit not as thin. Those more powerful models would be the S3 and the Series 7 respectively. Regardless, the S7 and the S3 are competing in two very different markets, and Acer wanted it to be that way so that the S3 sales don't cannabilize the S7's. In order to make sure of this, they included a dedicated gfx card in the S3 so that it is aimed at the powerful ultraportable market while the S7 is aimed at the premium ultrabook market. This way, even though the S3 is cheaper, the S7 will still get sold in reasonably large quantities and not be cannabilized by its chunkier, more powerful sibling.

Regardless, if I had to choose between the two, I would definitely take the S7 over the S3. :D

Is there any new word on when the S3 will be available for purchase in the US? And the S7 for that matter? I believe they release in the UK today or mid July, so will they be available anywhere in the US before August? I've seen no new announcements since beginning of June and I'm really interested. Anybody have insider info?

The S3 looks to be the worthy successor I've been waiting for. I can finally put my 3820TG to rest.

Hope it arrives in Canada some time before mid-August, before leaving for my vacation.

Is the S3 still planned to be released or did they scrap it? Can't find any recent info from the past several months online...
