Realistically speaking, $2799 for a machine like this is actually quite reasonable. Considering the only real "competitor" is the $4000 Razer Blade Pro; it's in a market on its own. At least until we see the Acer Triton 700, which I think we all know will be a ways away. Plus, this would make it one of the only GTX 1080 15" machines on the market right? Other than the F5, which is nowhere near this form factor.

The new ASUS Zephyrus will get the 1080 too; and to be honest I think the ASUS will be better than both in term of cooling/noise.

I put that as the minimum, I think the X5 MD will likely end up being mid-$3k.

Is there any indication when they're going to announce the MSRP?

Aorus usually announces a product well in advance, it will "appear" on the market at some point, and that's when you'll know the MSRP. I think this notebook isn't supposed to hit the market until Q3/Q4.

Thanks for the update!

What's the reason Aorus is sooo far behind all the time? They always launch their stuff way late missing a pretty big segment of the initial launch market. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they have like too small a team to get their R&D done in time. Because it can't be more profitable to launch near the end of a product lifespan (assuming Volta early-mid next year) or even mid lifespan if it takes longer.

I'm unsure the reason. I will say, though, that for a small vendor, they attract a lot of attention.

Wasn't a rule of Max-Q to be 18mm or less with max 40dBA? I wonder if Aorus can stay at 40dBA.

Nope. That so called new cooling solution they implemented on that laptop is obviously flawed just by taking a look at it...it's going to gather a lot of dust hence poor cooling.
