Averatec today unveiled its 6200 series Widescreen Mobile Theatre. This notebook follows the trend that we've seen of late for incorporating multimedia features into a computer that can be used without actually booting up the operating system. Last week the release of the Toshiba Qosmio brought to market the first laptop that could have instant on DVD and TV playing ability. Although the Averatec 6200 Mobile Theatre does not feature a built-in TV player as the Qosmio does, the Averatec machine is half the price with a suggested MSRP of $1199, a great deal for a widescreen computer and instant on DVD player.

The new 6200 seriesnotebooks are equipped with a Mobile AMD Athlon(TM) XP-M processor 2400+ with AMD PowerNow!(TM) technology. The sleek and stylish 6200 series features a 15.4-inch wide-screen XGA TFT display with 1280 x 800 resolution, as well as a built-in DVD+CD-RW combination drive. A dedicated audio/video wireless remote control is also included with the notebook, which is conveniently stored in the PCMCIA slot and allows on-demand control of the DVD player. In DVD player mode, with the use of a smart Li-Ion battery, users are able to view up to three 90- minute movies consecutively on a single battery charge.
"Until recently, users had to invest in two separate pieces of equipment in order to leverage devices optimized to the task of viewing DVD movies and working remotely," said Saeed Shahbazi, President of Averatec. "The 6200 series combines the best of both worlds for one low price. The notebook feature set makes this a tempting solution for even the most sophisticated notebook user, while the instant DVD feature without having to boot up the OS and the extended battery life, allowing hours of video and audio playback, makes this a portable entertainment center."
"We anticipate that the combination of Averatec's revolutionary design and the best-in-class performance of the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor will excite users with a thrilling multimedia computing experience," said Chris Cloran, Director of AMD's mobile business segment. "PC buyers will benefit from the extended system battery life made possible by the notebook's smart design and AMD's power management technology."
The 6200 series features 802.11g wireless, 512MB DDR333 memory, a 60GB, thin 9.5 mm hard drive and 10/100 Mbit network LAN and a 56k data/fax modem.
Whether being utilized as a robust notebook or a personal DVD player, the 6200 series will provide the necessary function in a compact 6.2 pound package. The notebook measures a compact 14 by 10 by 1.2 inches. The 6200 Series also includes four high-speed USB 2.0 ports and one Type II PC Card/CardBus slot, to allow users to quickly and easily extend the capabilities of the notebook to meet their specific needs. This notebook series is built to provide a multimedia powerhouse at the affordable price of $1199 at retail and $1249 direct from the Averatec website.
The 6200 Series notebooks come standard with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP, Works 7.0, Roxio(TM) Easy CD Creator and Norton Anti-Virus 2004. Microphone input and headphone output jacks are coupled with a full-size standard keyboard and large touch pad to give users an optimal user experience.
The 6200 series is backed by a 1-year limited warranty (6 months for the battery) and technical support is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through a toll free number. The notebooks are available online through major electronic retailers, resellers and distributors. The notebooks can also be purchased directly through the Averatec website at www.averatec.com.

Any idea who makes this notebook? If someone can provide the UL number from the bottom label, I'd be happy to look up the manufacturer at UL's web site (see:
http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/gfilenbr.html
to enter the UL number and see the manufacturer)
Thanks!
