Hate to say it, but there _are_ some businesses out there who either have perfectly operational networks based on Win XP Pro and/or individuals or SoHo who still use apps not supported by Windows Vista and above.... :\

Honestly, so long as a company's application(s) work fine on XP, and the company network is properly secured from outside threats, I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade from XP to 8, or even 7.

    Let's see....

With a newer Windows I loose...

Great audio in some games (Creative X-Fi EAX)
Some functions in the nVidia drivers
    A day to migrate everything

    And I gain....
    Better 64 bit support

As for the intertoys edition of windows (Windows 8): I wouldn't "upgrade" to that if it was free...

Yup, businesses crave compatibility and lower cost over having the latest and greatest. Microsoft will have to show that upgrading offers them something that trumps that before they upgrade. I haven't seen that yet. I saw somewhere, maybe Engadget, that Microsoft was making the next version of Windows more desktop friendly. Users will be able to boot to the desktop instead of the start screen. In my limited experience with it, I liked the start screen, but it's clearly made for tablets and should not have been jammed down everyone's throat.
