The U.S. government defended American companies in their complaints regarding the Chinese push to enforce the "WAPI" encryption standard for Wi-Fi devices by June 1. U.S. companies complained the standards were proprietary, expensive to accomodate for, protectionary of Chinese companies and just plain dumb. But China today blinked in the stare down and say they will not enforce companies to make their devices compliant with the WAPI encyrption protocol. Intel will not pull its Centrino notebooks from the Chinese market in China because of this agreement.
