I got mine in six days, and I didn't ever call my dell rep.

I ordered with the free shipping (3-5 day delivery).
Indeed, my black lid not being back ordered probably explains the fast delivery.

I'd say your anti-glare sped up things! My Dell rep told me that there is a worldwide shortage on the glass they need for the anti-glare.

then how is this shortage speeding up the order?

Its not a special type of glass that makes TL screens what they are. In fact, anti-glare screens and TL screens use the same kind of glass. TL screens are simply given a special glaze that maximizes color differentiation and reflects light.

From my experience on the forums, the popularity of the color lid you choose seems to be the most prominent factor in when you receive your notebook.

Sorry, sometimes German thinking and English writing gets me confused. :D

I was of course told that there was a shortage on the glass they use for GLARE (TrueLife) displays. And if you look at the people who already have their 1520s you see a lot of anti-glares there...

er I think you mean "glossy" when you say glare screens?

Anyways, the inclusion of a decent gpu makes this notebook very desirable. Hopefully better dell coupons will be released soon so I could get a good deal with this.

Damn! So I should have used the dictionary! Wasn't sure...
So when tombo74! says GLARE he means GLOSSY!

I just asked a dell agent what the noise in the new Inspiron 1520 was and he commented "Mr.XXXX , I am afraid there is no such problems in Dell systems"

I can second that! there's no sound at all even when extremely gaming and the secondary fan is running like crazy! but you can feel some heat in the left rear side thou..

I'm glad that you say that there is no sound. I was worried because a lot of people on this site and other notebook sights are saying they hear a high pitch noise coming from the notebook.

actually this the first time I hear about high pitch noise in Dells. as far as I know, the Vaios have this kind of noise and especially the new FZ battery.

All Core 2 Duos can have the high-pitched sound. Some people notice it, others don't. The 1520, being a Core 2 notebook, has been reported to have it. I personally only heard it while running my computer in a very quiet room--even just the AC covered it up in my case. Try a forum search and you can find a lot of information.

well differenet forums have different opinions always. the point here is that if this sound really exists, it cannot be louder that let say... fan noise.. or could be ?

but a really annoying problem expressed by ALL the Vaio FZ owners is that it's battery makes a terrible high pitch noise, one of those sounds you really cannot undergo.

actually thanks a lot for indirectly letting me discover the RMClock utility. only 47-48C wow I'm "cool" :D
maybe you're right and all the C2D and AMDx2 processors could have this issue but voting in that poll I just can then say that "I'm a lucky mother..f" because I don't have any sounds issues with my 1520 only a little more heat when extremely gaming, but thanks anyway again ! :)

I bought a 1520 and a 1525 and quite pleased with them both.

    2 gig ram on both
    1520 with win xp
    1525 with win vista

1520 out performs the 1525 greatly.
both systems are used in my business and have dedicated company apps and are vertually identical except the os'es.
