The second lid looks pretty decent; but the first one looks pretty ugly IMO.

Too bad the art is limited to the lid.

I honestly find those kind of ugly.

I find the seond one more beautiful..actually in my opinion, the dell is cleaner looking than the hp which imprints the design everywhere, even on the palmrest, which makes it ugly looking..

yeah, I agree the Dell looks a bit better than the busy pattern of HP paint , but I prefer the black-box look of Vostro over all others.

I still prefer real substance (better spec) over some paintjob on my notebook's cover.

Why can't I just engrave my own art into my laptop? Oh wait, already did. :D

i like the second lid. its interesting to see the direction laptop designs are going though. they really are beginning to incorporate some form of art, like the new ideapad, this, and the HP imprints. i think people want to have their own "custom" lid. i think soon enough theres going to be a lot of options of how to physically altercate your laptop.

Yay, so to forecast what Dell will do next, one only has to look at what HP does first.

Well that's kind of unfair... I think all companies should be able to design their notebook lids. Just because one company did it, doesn't mean anybody else that does it is following suit.

What's the matter with everybody...? The artwork is beautiful and has an authentic quality to it. Amazing aesthetics. I dont know... I'm a traditional artist and I really dig it. Not that you have to be one to appreciate it. *shrugs*

IMO, I think it'll be a long time before these kind of notebooks sell because first of all, mass marketing this "unique" design doesn't make it any more special than another Inspiron and second, there has to be more designs...like A LOT more.

    Anyways, great job Dell!

Yeah, you're right. It's a bit unfair. But in this case, they certainly are copying HP.

I mean, Dell has Ideastorm to glean for original ideas. Yet they implement almost none. I'd like to see Dell lead, not follow. Like in the good old days.

Well there's the rub. More designs equal more cost. What's more, you can only enjoy the design when you're not using the notebook. I.e. when the lid is down. Seems kind of funny to me but my lids are up 8-12 hrs a day. Guess before I go to bed and when I wake it'd put a smile on my face. That's gotta be worth the premium paid.

    :D

good thing they can still be ordered in black, those look ugly IMO.

I just hope they don't but the L-shaped enter key on it... that is even worse than that design (a lot worse).

They should offer that second lid on one of the Vostros. White lines on black looks good =). Too bad Vostros are business tailored...

I definitely agree. Innovation should be priority for any company.

Yeah, more designs would equal more cost, but there are people, I would assume like you(?), who see the "impracticalness" of paying extra for something that's not even personally seen much. I'm kind of like that, too.

It's just that buying premium products aren't mandatory; it's a choice. Personally, I'd like for there to be a lot of options, ya know?

HP's Artist style is way much better imo, and yes I agree with Greg it looked quite bad :)

Personally I don't think that the colours used in the first design are that bad; it's very vibrant and the brown mixes in with the blue. On the other hand, I thought that the special HP edition that had the greens and the browns looked absolutely terrible.

Oh yes. HP first came up with a hideous design, and Dell copied the idea.

I prefer the second to the first, but don't particularly like either. Reminiscent of Katsushika Hokusai's work.
