Earlier in the month Dell and Best Buy announced Inspiron and XPS laptops would be available for sale in Best Buy retail stores nationwide in the U.S. They missed the holiday sale season, but the Dell machines are now on the shelves.
The XPS M1330 with white alpine lid is available at BestBuy.com at the moment and is priced at $1,249.99 with the following configuration:
- Intel T5450 1.66GHz processor
- Intel X3100 graphics
- 13.3" WXGA screen with 2.0MP web camera
- 2GB RAM
- Dell 1390 wireless
- DVD±RW/CD-RW optical drive
- 160GB 5400RPM hard drive
- 6-cell battery
When you configure the same specs on Dell.com right now this laptop costs $1,279, so the BestBuy deal is actually slightly better. The problem is of course you can't custom configure the XPS M1330 at Best Buy like you can via Dell.com.
Also available on BestBuy.com is the Inspiron 1420 for $999 with the following configuration:
- Intel T5450 1.66GHz processor
- Intel X3100 graphics
- 14.1" WXGA screen with 2.0MP web camera
- 2GB RAM
- Dell 1390 wireless
- DVD±RW/CD-RW optical drive
- 250GB 5400RPM hard drive
- 6-cell battery
The same configuration on Dell.com costs $1,194 right now, so again the Best Buy deal is cheaper. However, if you have Dell online coupon codes or know how to configure a machine cheaper online, such as getting the minimum amount of memory and upgrading RAM yourself, then you can still get the better deal online.
All the same, many people will be interested in testing out these Dell machines in a store and some people that prefer to buy from somewhere they can walk into will also prefer this purchase method.

I've always wanted to see the XPS M1730 in person, I don't think BestBuy will carry it, though.
-
I saw 1521's in Wallmart today. I was like "Whoa what the ****...".. Now I'm kinda aggravated because all the welfare bums and hillbillies will have a computer that looks like mine. (I live out in the country-came from the big city)

Finally!
I'll go see some in the store later this week. ;D -
Andrew - thanks for the heads up, coupon link does not work - has an s in coupons, here's the good one:

I was just over at Austin yesterday and saw the dells over at a Best Buy store.
Finally saw the M1330 and Asus U6 in person. They also had the 1520, 1521, 1420, and several Dell desktops though there. My local BB sucks! -
This is a good move for Dell. Despite their TV ads, so many more people buy computers from a store than a website. When I bought my current computer, the computer I had couldn't load Dell.com, or any other website because it was so messed up. I picked up a HP from Costco. -
I saw the M1330 at BB this past Sat. At first I thought what machine is this.
I really like it alot!
I would get it thru Dell Outlet though. Save me tons of money!
Right now I have the D430 and I love it! So tiny and easy to lug around. -
I think it's about time dell put their computers in stores. It would be ridiculously foolish of them to stick to their direct sale model because a lot of people get their laptops from stores, especially ones who do not know anything about computer hardware to configure one online. IMO the direct sale model is kind of outdated and cannot compete well with companies like hp that sell their laptop in stores.

While the specs on those laptops give me gamer-gout, most people will be more than pleased with the performance of those DELL in-store laptops, and the x3100 really isn't ALL that bad (well, to me it is, but I have gamer-gout).
Just the next step in Dell's world-wide domination. -
I think the specs they chose for the systems in Best Buy will be a good sell for the M1330. Its an eye catching laptop and will grab the buyer who is looking at around the grand mark and then falls in love with this design. He/she will make the jump to this price.
My M1330 has garnished alot of attention, not only through times when I use it for work, but also other activities when it is outside my home. I think anyone who has used it at college can attest to much the same. -
Lol. If they can boot it up in under 30 seconds like you then I'll admit the first full sentence of this post is pointless.
This is a great move for Dell. It's true that most people are too lazy or too under-informed to be bothered to go to Dell.com. Of course, for people like me, who need to know EVERYTHING that goes into a system, I could never go to a B&M store unless I had a complete spec sheet.
Besides, once you get over the thrill of getting a new computer from a local store, since you're getting it so quickly, it seems to go downhill. At least with me.
So I'll stop before this turns into a direct-sale vs. B&M thread. xD -
Wow, that m1330 is terribly overpriced. Profits galore for BB.

Say goodbye to DELL coupons ( just guessing ) . -

I went to Best Buy yesterday and saw the 1420, 1520, 1521, and XPS M1530. It was the first time I saw the latter, I really liked the design.

Funniest thing I read all day. I remember seeing the exact same banner on bestbuy.com the other day but paid no attention to it and continued to search the site. I'll probably be checking out the laptops at a Best Buy store tomorrow.
