"..it next to impossible to use on your lap..."

On the contrary, if he entire bottom is not on your lap, it will not heat your lap. Instead of a half opened notebook, you can comfortably use it as shown in this picture:

agreed, you'll have that edge pushing in your legs all the time. I really think they just did it to show they're thinking "out of the box". More or less like a concept car except this is actually in production. I think it's interesting to see if they can come up with a different form for laptops which could actually be an improvement....imho this one just adds a lot of instability and discomfort when not used on a desk

The review says " the 13-inch WLED display looks amazing".
Does that also apply to the vertical viewing angles?
Whether it's placed on a lap or desk, it seems to me the user has to adjust his head (and not the screen) in order to have the best view.
Or is the screen quality so good that it doesn't matter if you lean/hang back a bit?

They should have waited for arrandale ULV parts before releasing this one. Could have asked intel to give it early. After all they might not see more than few hundreds of these.

I watched one of the videos, and the design grew on me as well as the way the keyboard is placed, but still it's extremely thin, which means it's not going to have a butt load of power. Also, I'm kind of hardcore about having an optical disc drive, just because I'm that way. As far as lap placement goes, if there was a third "plane" to the design that is connected to both the keyboard and screen area to allow a flat bottom, then I'd be more enticed to like it. Honestly, the design is pretty cool, but the form factor makes it a very limited machine in terms of performance, options, as well as extremely expensive. Kudos on the design and forward thinking, "mal" on the execution I guess.

looks good, but not sure whether it works well as a laptop. It will be fine as a desktop replacement, but then the screen is too small. For such a small size computer, the way it is designed prevent it from been properly utilised on the laptop by many road warriors.

This clearly form over function design principle. Maybe you could buy it and see it as a decoration for your house somewhere.

i am sure that the ULV cpu used in that laptop produce so much heat that it can actually burn your lap. The whole idea of the ULV is that it gives extended battery time and produce the smallest amount of heat output, which is why it is used almost exclusively in the high end ultramobile notebooks.
