From the pictures, it appears that there will be a choice of three lid colors (black, red, and white).
The release date is rumored to be July 13th, with the formal announcement expected by end of June.

So why do I get the feeling that the SZ is now going to be a little...threatened

 Nice specs...hope that info's correct.
-
That looks sweet! Asus and Sony have some competition now!!
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super ModeratorFascinating! I've been wondering for a long time why there is such little choice in this size range. It looks as if the M1330 will open up the options. It looks as if Dell are trying to get back into the game after taking their eye off the ball.

Samsung have also got a shiny black 13.3" notebook ( Q70) coming out soon which will add to the choice in Europe.

 John
-
This brings it in closer competition to the SZ, and beats the specs of the Samsung Q70 (Europe) and Asus W7S and S37s barebone. Whats nice is that this has the GS card with 16 stream processors, as opposed to the G found in the others.

The one thing I think could go wrong with this is the price. Other than that, they have corrected every flaw I could find on the M1210, save for the badge. It appears that there will be a choice of two lid colors (red and black) similar to the larger XPS M17x0, but the red looks absolutely horrid. The black is beautiful though.
-
Power button on the hinge like the w3j?

Looks like Dell is finally getting the idea. Form kinda looks like HP, except a lot more thinner. Hope this sets the tone for the new consumer line notebooks.

I might even go for this myself if the price is right ^_^ (or just scoop up a refurb)
-
Dell had the X1 with the same kind of power button. I don't know how much better it is though...:confused2:
-
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR ReviewerGreat notebook, but I don't think that the 8400GS is that much better then the 7400Go, or am I wrong here?
-
I didn't notice that, but NICE! I also like the hinge design, it helps the laptop sit a bit lower.

They've increased the screen size and performance and decreased the weight and thickness; thats progress right there. This might actually make me purchase a Dell, if the price is similar to the M1210. This might actually make me purchase a Dell, if the price is similar to the M1210.

That was a rebadged Samsung Q30....Its not necessarily better, its just a lot cooler looking. Plus it frees up space at the top of the laptop so that the keyboard can be moved forward and the palm rests can be made larger. Dell has their media player thing up there though, so it might not net any real benefit.

Well, by benchmarks, the Go7400 was getting ~850 in 3DMark06; the 8400GS is closer to 1500.
-

 Wooah !
 More surprises from DELL
-

 Looks awesome, impressive specs!
-
 that is one sexy notebook
-

 too heavy.
-
It's lighter and thinner than my Averatec and the screen is 1" wider. Then again, it'd probably cost 3 times as much as my Averatec. Hahah.
-
Eh? Its the lightest 13" notebook out there, save for the horrendously overpriced Sony SZ Premium version (which is completely carbon fiber, and is a paltry 0.3lbs lighter). Even the regular SZ is heavier than this.
-
It's an improvement over the m1210. Lighter and thinner, but with a bigger screen. And lots of innovative specs on the notebook!
-
is it ok to drool over a notebook or am i going crazy now?
-
 Nah, you're fine. Here's a napkin...
-
For a 13.3 chassis, I want the 8600GS. I thinks it completely possible. Or even better yet ATI's HD2600.
-

hmmm that remote reminds me of the one i have in my HP
-

wud the 8400gs be able to handle crysis?
-

Yeah, on the lowest settings possible. I have a 6600GT, and it barely meets the requirements.

Looking drop-dead sexy! If I wasn't looking for a gaming notebook, I would pick this baby up. It's pretty hot.
-
Its completely possible, as long as you have no problems with 1hr of battery life and idle temps of 70C. Most people do though, so thats why it isn't being done.
-

 wow
 i'm impressed
i bought an Asus A8Jm, then got fed up with bad build quality, and got a Thinkpad.
this is tempting, but we'll have to see the build quality.
any ideas on a release date?

the best thing about dells is their frequent discounts!
-
Not on XPS models. I've seen one discount in the last 2 years, and that was just a $200 rebate on the M1210 to clear stock.

You know what this M1330 looks like? It looks like the old Banias Sony VAIO Z1. This looks just like that, especially in the first picture.
-

 http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/04/dell-xps-m1330-performance-ultraportable-revealed/

wow this laptop really makes me want to drool all over. looks like a hybrid of hp and sony.
-
Are you saying Dell took a step backwards in regards to design?
-
No, thats a huge, even quantum, leap forward. Borrowing from the best is never a bad thing. The Z1 and the Asus V6V were pretty much my favorite laptops from the original Centrino generation. The VAIO S and Asus W3V were up there too, but the Z1 was simply beautiful. It had a very striking design, with the silver edge on the side, and the black keyboard and trim on the inside. This essentially follows that style, but updates it with widescreen, camera, and puts a new spin on the lid (carbon black!).

Sometimes, the only way forward is to go back
-

Holy Cow! I love the design! And some awesome specs as well. Especially the SSD option. Thanks for sharing.
-

I had been hoping for an M1410
-
Ahh... I see I really like the sound of the dual layer slot load-in drive. That in itself is amazing... It's Dell's first slot-loading drive ever, if I'm not mistaken. I wonder why they didn't think of it when building the m1210... I really like the sound of the dual layer slot load-in drive. That in itself is amazing... -

Looks great, awesome specs though Im maybe a bit disapointed if it really comes out with 8400M GS... With 8400M GT, this would definitely be my next notebook.
-
Hmm, I'm really not too crazy about slot-load drives, after using the one on my iMac for a few months. Its really aesthetically pleasing, but the operation to load and unload the discs is slow and rather noisy. I do like that you can't snap the CD tray off (my brother did that to one of my previous notebooks - I was not pleased). I don't mind either way, but its not a feature that I would pay extra for.
-
I'm waiting for the release date.. :/

 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125621

The XPS M1210 was rumored to be updated with a slimmer design, SR/DX10, and LED backlight on June 26. Considering that the rest of the rumor was right on target, I wouldn't bet against the 26th date.
-

This is the news I've been waiting for over a month! I'm a little dissapointed it is a 13" instead of 12" like M1210. I also kind of hoped for the 8400M GT, but I can understand that the GS will probably give better battery life and make the notebook run cooler. I'm also a little dissapointed the LED version only gets a VGA camera. The premium SZ manages 1.3 megapixel, I believe. The color scheme is awesome; it matches my Dell Axim X51v and my custom desktop setup. This will be my first notebook almost for sure, so long as the price dosen't become astronomical.
-
Its going to be pricey, at the very least. With these kind of specs, I don't expect it to run much less than 2k, and even the base model will likely be close to $1400 or more.

As for 13" vs. 12": The XPS M1210 chassis was big enough to accommodate a 13" screen, but Dell went with a 12" for reasons I do not know. They've simply taken advantage of the size they have. Plus, now its a thinner and lighter laptop than before, and it has a bigger screen. There doesn't seem to be a loss here at all.
-

Yeah, but I was hoping for a 12" with smaller dimensions then the M1210. My biggest question now is if this model will incorporate Intel Turbo Memory. Also, it looks like the've moved the direct media buttons from the front. I liked that feature on the M1210.
-
The media button array is above the keyboard now. I hope that they aren't touch sensitive like on the HP dv series; those are really annoying buttons.

I hope it has Turbo Memory, but it may not, since it is a consumer gaming notebook. I would assume it doesn't, since there isn't any mention of it.
-

 Red lids are hawt

Why Dell only extend the über cool designs for the XPS range is beyond me. Wouldn't kill them to add some touches to their standard consumer/business ranges.
-
 Very nice.

About time we get to talk about it LOL!

Though prices have yet to be revealed...
-
No, the Latitudes are overstyled by business laptop standards, with that silver lid and stuff. Other business laptops are square and black (IBM) or dark gray (HP Compaq).
Inspirons, on the other hand, live to look ugly. Aside from the low price, the only notable thing is how bad they look. Thats not a good thing. I think they will be improving the styling with the new Inspirons, or at least on the Vostro/Mantra lines. They're (hopefully) smart enough to realize the main reason HP is beating them right now is because their notebooks look like you paid about 2k for them, even though they only cost about $800. Dells, on the other hand, look like they are 5 years old (the design hasn't changed since '03), and they cost almost the same.

Thats the part that scares me.
-
 your first notebook ever?
-
 because XPS is the shizzle
-
Yea, I'm expecting at least $2000 considering the specs and other rivaling notebooks in that size category. like the SZ or the W7s.
-
Did the M1210 have an optional fingerprint scanner? Cause this one does.

Also, the M1330 seems to have ditched the rotating webcam for a sleeker, stationary version. Not cool, but I understand why it was done.
-

while the specs might be somewhat true, do you realize the pictures are either photoshoped or show concept design? First of all there are no letters on keys and past experience reminds me that Dell never designed aesthetically appealing laptops.

Don't get me wrong I wish Dell would make something like that, but this is just too good to be true.
-
That is why they've lost market share...so maybe they are addressing that now.
-

All i can say is .. prayers have been answered..... thank you.
-
hm I remember a year ago, Asus won a contract from Dell to make Santa Rosa notebooks
 http://www.emsnow.com/newsarchives/archivedetails.cfm?ID=13656

I wonder if this is an Asus developed notebook
Dell XPS M1330
